The General Directorate of Traffic announced on June 27 that a section of the Fourth Ring Road in Yarmouk will close for 40 days starting the next day to carry out road maintenance. The affected part runs from the Airport Road (Route 55) intersection to the King Faisal bin Abdulaziz Al Saud Road (Riyadh Road) intersection in the direction of Salmiya. The directorate advised motorists to use alternative routes while keeping Airport Road open for traffic from Jahra to Salmiya.

The General Directorate of Traffic issued the closure order as part of coordinated efforts with the Ministry of Public Works. The works are scheduled to continue until Aug. 7 on the segment known as Hussein bin Ali Al-Rumi Road. The ministry’s ongoing projects have included similar interventions on the Fourth Ring Road opposite Shuwaikh and at various intersections according to recent updates from the authority. Data from those announcements show such maintenance addresses wear on routes that carry high daily traffic volumes in the capital region.

In April 2026 the Ministry of Public Works intensified its nationwide road maintenance campaign covering the Fourth Ring Road among other key highways. Those operations targeted intersections with the Maghreb Expressway and stretches extending to Damascus Street. The current closure continues elements of that campaign on the Fourth Ring Road. The ministry has conducted extensive maintenance work on the Fourth Ring Road opposite the Shuwaikh area as part of its broader infrastructure program.

Motorists traveling toward Salmiya will need to follow alternative routes during the closure period the directorate said. The authority has recommended drivers observe posted signs and monitor real-time traffic information for available paths. Airport Road will continue to serve traffic moving from Jahra to Salmiya without interruption according to the announcement. Updates on the works will come through official traffic channels as the project advances.

Kuwait’s ring roads serve as primary arteries in the urban transportation network. The Fourth Ring Road handles substantial volumes of commuter and commercial traffic on a daily basis. Previous maintenance projects on the First Kuwait Ring Road were completed by the Ministry of Public Works with design support from engineering firms and improved circulation around congested zones. The ministry has pursued similar upgrades across multiple ring roads in subsequent years.

The General Directorate of Traffic has released comparable announcements for temporary closures on Riyadh Road and the Sixth Ring Road in recent weeks. Those measures formed part of scheduled infrastructure activities across the governorates. The directorate coordinates with public works teams to manage impacts on regular traffic flows during these periods.
