The Ministry of Interior announced on July 11 that a Kuwaiti dentist had been arrested on charges of possessing narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances for alleged personal use and trafficking. The arrest was executed by the Department for Combating Trafficking in Persons and Negative Phenomena as part of the General Department of Criminal Investigation’s work. The ministry positioned the case within its persistent drive to pursue lawbreakers and mitigate negative social phenomena.

Investigations by the ministry established that the dentist had employed social media platforms to offer the drugs in exchange for immoral acts. This discovery triggered prolonged monitoring and intelligence collection before security teams organized an ambush at a rented room where the suspect was taken into custody. The operation concluded with the dentist caught in possession of the prohibited materials.

The ministry’s statement listed two bags containing hashish, three bags of methamphetamine, 10 Lyrica capsules, a bag of narcotic powder and drug paraphernalia as the items seized from the rented room. A Public Prosecution warrant then enabled a search of the suspect’s residence that located further narcotics inside his personal closet. Those discoveries consisted of a plastic container filled with methamphetamine, 46 Captagon tablets, three hashish pieces of varying sizes and numerous psychotropic pills, according to the ministry.

The ministry confirmed that the dentist together with every seized article was referred to the competent authorities for the requisite legal procedures. This referral encompasses the collections from both the rented room and the residence. The Public Prosecution will now oversee the subsequent stages of the case.

First Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Sheikh Fahad Yusuf Saud Al-Sabah stated that security authorities have intercepted nearly 95 percent of drug shipments attempting to enter Kuwait. The minister added that traffickers persist in devising novel smuggling methods, necessitating continuous upgrades in technology and specialized training for personnel. One recent success involved the detection of narcotic-saturated A4 paper sheets through these enhanced capabilities.

The Ministry of Interior launched its largest national anti-drug campaign titled ‘A Nation that Protects You’ with support from Zain and broad participation by public, private and civil society institutions. The event brought together the minister, Minister of State for Social Affairs Family and Childhood Dr Amthal Al-Huwailah, Minister of Health Dr Ahmad Al-Awadhi, Minister of Justice Nasser Al-Sumait and other senior figures. The campaign focuses on intensifying awareness while bolstering enforcement to protect the community from drug threats.
