Ambassador Paramita Tripathi told Kuwait Times that India remains committed to supporting Kuwait’s food security needs and ensuring a steady flow of essential food supplies amid ongoing regional challenges. Tripathi said products needed in Kuwait are being supplied from India on a regular basis, including fruits, vegetables and meat. “Anything that is required, we are ready,” Tripathi said. She noted that food shipments from India have continued for the past months and remain ongoing despite logistical challenges affecting the region, with both countries coordinating to maintain the smooth flow of goods.
The ambassador’s comments followed the visit to Kuwait the same day by External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar, which Tripathi described as an expression of India’s solidarity with Kuwait in light of current regional developments. According to Tripathi, Jaishankar conveyed a message to Kuwaiti leaders affirming the depth of bilateral relations and New Delhi’s readiness to fully support the Gulf state during this period. Jaishankar held a series of meetings with Crown Prince Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Sabah, Prime Minister Sheikh Ahmad Abdullah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, and the ministers of foreign affairs and defense, where discussions addressed bilateral ties along with regional security developments and their broader implications for stability.
Tripathi indicated that India had already delivered specialized foam materials for extinguishing large fires as one element of its support. The ambassador added that further bilateral visits are expected in the coming period, during which agreements will be discussed and cooperation strengthened between the two countries. She pointed to the warm welcome Jaishankar received from Kuwaiti officials, which she said reflected the strength of the historical relations that bind the nations, while noting that the Indian embassy continues to monitor conditions closely.
Tripathi told Kuwait Times that Jaishankar also met members of the Indian community in Kuwait to hear their views and learn about their situation under the current circumstances. She said the embassy maintains continuous contact with community members and forwards daily reports to the ministry in New Delhi on their well-being. Jaishankar stressed that the safety and well-being of Indian citizens abroad stands as the top priority for the Indian government. Community members expressed happiness over the visit and the opportunity to exchange perspectives on India’s efforts to assist them, the ambassador added.
Kuwait Times reported separately that the Kuwaiti government has prepared strategic plans to maintain food supplies and stabilize prices in light of concerns across the Middle East. The regional turmoil has disrupted multiple sectors, including fishing, where CNN reported from a Kuwait fish market that government restrictions on permits have reduced both local catches and international supplies available for sale. These pressures have elevated the importance of reliable trading partners such as India in safeguarding the supply of essentials for Kuwaiti residents.
Tripathi expressed hope for the continuation of mutual visits between India and Kuwait. She hinted that mutual invitations are already in place and that arrangements for additional official visits are underway. The ambassador’s statements followed the high-level engagements that emphasized coordinated responses to shared challenges.
