He said maximum temperatures would range from 46 to 48 degrees Celsius on Friday with minima between 31 and 33 degrees while Saturday would see highs of 47 to 49 degrees and lows of 34 to 36 degrees. Southeast winds during the initial days are expected to turn northwest later with speeds between 8 and 32 kilometers per hour. The department also highlighted humidity levels that will feel particularly high in coastal zones.
Sea waves are forecast to reach between one and four feet according to the department’s assessment. The official forecast published on the Meteorological Department’s website lists a maximum of 48 degrees for Friday rising to 49 degrees on Saturday and potentially 51 degrees on Sunday. These figures build on a series of very hot days already observed in the current summer season.
Kuwait has witnessed a marked rise in extreme heat events over recent decades. Climate records examined by researchers show 64 days with temperatures above 50 degrees Celsius occurred between 2010 and 2021 compared with only 18 such days across the preceding 40 years from the 1960s to the 2000s. The trend forms part of wider warming patterns documented across the Middle East.
The World Meteorological Organization confirmed a 53.9 degrees Celsius reading at Mitribah in northern Kuwait during July 2016 which ranked among the highest temperatures ever noted in Asia. A study published in Occupational and Environmental Medicine analyzed summertime data from the country and linked higher temperatures to elevated rates of workplace injuries. The research found that an average daily temperature of 39.4 degrees Celsius corresponded to a 44 percent increase in injury risk relative to cooler baseline days.
Expatriate workers who constitute a large share of the outdoor labor force in sectors such as construction face heightened vulnerability under these conditions according to separate examinations of migrant health impacts. Projections from health analyses indicate that the proportion of heat-related deaths in Kuwait which already stands at 13.6 percent could climb further if current warming trajectories persist. Authorities have in past heat episodes advised limiting time outdoors during peak afternoon hours and maintaining hydration to mitigate risks.
The latest forecast arrives as regional weather systems continue to drive above-average temperatures across the Gulf. Northwest winds later in the period may contribute to reduced visibility in exposed locations through dust mobilization. The department continues to monitor developments closely with regular updates provided via official channels.
