Security officials reported that the shootings occurred inside a family residence in the Al-Rabia area at dawn on August 16. The father born in 1969 is alleged to have used a shotgun in the attack on his wife born in 1977 and his daughter born in 2006. Officials confirmed the couple’s son born in 2005 remained unharmed throughout the incident. Police arrived at the scene shortly after the father left for a nearby station.

The interior ministry detailed that the suspect surrendered voluntarily at a local police station on the same day. Investigators immediately secured the home and began collecting evidence from the location. Forensic teams focused on the weapon believed to have been used in the killings. The ministry has withheld the identities of all family members pending further inquiry into the circumstances.

Kuwait police placed the case under active investigation with interviews underway among neighbors in the Al-Rabia neighborhood. Prosecutors will review findings before determining specific charges under the penal code. The directorate noted that ballistics and autopsy results will form a central part of the file forwarded to judicial authorities.

Official figures from the Ministry of Interior show assault cases across Kuwait dropped 53.2 percent in the first half of 2026 compared with the same period a year earlier. The ministry’s data also indicated broader declines in several crime categories during that timeframe. Despite the reductions violent incidents within households continue to surface periodically according to the same reports.

A United States State Department human rights assessment found that the Kuwaiti government does not regularly publish comprehensive statistics on domestic violence. Local nongovernmental organizations have documented such cases consistently in recent years according to the assessment. Kuwaiti law imposes strict penalties for violent crimes including those occurring inside family settings.

The interior ministry has referred the Al-Rabia case to specialized units for completion of technical examinations. Detectives continue to examine potential motives while maintaining standard procedures for family-related fatalities. Updates on the probe will be released as additional verified information becomes available.
