The Public Authority for Housing Welfare announced that its Women’s Housing Affairs Committee organized a draw on Thursday to distribute 330 rented homes in the Taima and Sulaibiya areas to eligible Kuwaiti women. Committee chair Sheikha Bibi Al-Yousef Al-Sabah said in a press statement that the draw was the largest organized by the committee since its establishment. Sheikha Bibi Al-Yousef added that the committee has distributed around 2,000 homes to Kuwaiti women since it began operations, describing the total as an important achievement in meeting housing needs. The announcement noted that the latest allocation reached applications submitted in 2017 and 2018 while advancing certain urgent family cases.

Sheikha Bibi Al-Yousef Al-Sabah stated that the draw focused on priority groups including divorced women, widows, women with disabilities and those with low incomes. The Public Authority for Housing Welfare extended the period for beneficiaries to occupy their assigned units from two months to three months in recognition of the circumstances facing many Kuwaiti women. The authority warned that inspections revealing a home left vacant could result in the unit being withdrawn and the beneficiary’s entitlement cancelled. Officials emphasized that all regulations governing rented homes remain unchanged.

The Public Authority for Housing Welfare has indicated through its published FAQs that Kuwaiti women married to non-Kuwaiti men hold the right to apply for rental housing under the welfare program. A prior draw reported by the authority in December 2025 allocated 170 units to women with applications dating to 2001 or earlier in the same areas. The latest effort continues a pattern of addressing the housing backlog through targeted lotteries for vulnerable groups.

Kuwait’s housing welfare framework, established under laws supervised by the Public Authority for Housing Welfare, provides loans of up to 70,000 Kuwaiti dinars for divorced and widowed women with custody according to program guidelines. The authority is advancing a low-cost housing project scheduled for completion in early 2028 that will include nearly 9,800 units, with priority access for residents of Sulaibiya and Taima as noted in earlier PAHW statements. Additional developments in areas such as South Saad Al-Abdullah remain in planning stages with final unit counts still under review per the authority’s project updates.

The Public Authority for Housing Welfare continues to encourage all applicants to update their personal and housing data to maintain eligibility across its services. Sheikha Bibi Al-Yousef Al-Sabah reiterated in the announcement the committee’s commitment to processing remaining applications in accordance with approved criteria. The authority’s ongoing work includes coordination with other government bodies to expand available housing stock and infrastructure in designated residential zones.
