A joint inspection campaign conducted by the Public Authority for Food and Nutrition in cooperation with the Ministry of Interior, Ministry of Commerce and Industry and relevant fisheries bodies targeted markets in Fahaheel on October 9. The operation centered on outlets selling fish, vegetables and meat to ensure adherence to health and hygiene regulations across the board. Inspectors identified and removed 773 kilograms of fish that exhibited spoilage and were unfit for human consumption, ordering their destruction under standard protocols.

In addition to the seizure the authority recorded four violation citations related to breaches of general cleanliness and regulatory requirements at the inspected sites. The cases have been referred for legal follow-up as part of standard enforcement procedures. The Public Authority for Food and Nutrition stated that such campaigns will persist in collaboration with partner agencies to safeguard public health.

The latest action continues a year-long series of intensified inspections by the authority aimed at curbing the circulation of unsafe food products. In July the authority reported seizing more than 3.2 tons of deteriorated fish at Kuwait’s waterfront market after similar joint operations with interior ministry personnel. Those consignments displayed marked changes in appearance and emitted strong unpleasant odors confirming their unsuitability for sale.

An April operation by the authority in Al-Ushayrija involved the seizure of approximately 28,900 kilograms of spoiled fish along with misrepresented shrimp products that had been processed and packaged as fresh Saudi origin items. The authority impounded distribution vehicles used in the scheme and initiated prosecution against those involved. The scale of that intervention reflected the authority’s focus on large-scale adulteration attempts in the seafood sector.

The March campaign by the authority’s Mubarak Al-Kabeer Governorate Inspection Department examined 379 food establishments. It resulted in 49 violations and the destruction of 18 kilograms of spoiled fish. Similar patterns have appeared in other governorates throughout the year according to authority updates.

In a comparable 2025 case at the Sharq fish market the authority intercepted four refrigerated trucks containing 10 tons of spoiled shrimp and fish destined for consumer sale. That operation led to immediate destruction of the load and further referrals to prosecution. Ongoing oversight across all governorates remains a priority for the food safety regulator according to its published updates.
