As Kuwait prepares for its first Asian Cup appearance since 2015, Al Raya Travel & Tourism is packaging the national team’s opening match with visits to Qiddiya, connecting a long-awaited football return with Saudi Arabia’s expanding leisure destinations.

Kuwait’s return to the AFC Asian Cup is becoming a travel story well before the team takes the field. With Saudi Arabia hosting the tournament in January 2027, Kuwaiti agency Al Raya Travel & Tourism is advertising trips that combine support for the national side with time at the kingdom’s new entertainment attractions.

The company’s published packages pair Kuwait’s opening match against Oman with either Aquarabia or Six Flags Qiddiya City. Both itineraries run from 7 to 10 January, placing a short holiday around a fixture that marks Kuwait’s return to the continental finals after missing two editions.

The combination provides a concrete example of how a major sporting event can shape a trip beyond the stadium. For Kuwait’s travelling supporters, the decision now includes how much of the tournament to follow and what to do between matches. For the travel businesses serving them, the fixture list provides the structure around which those journeys are being assembled.

A return with significance for Kuwait

Kuwait won the Asian Cup on home soil in 1980, but its most recent appearance at the finals was in Australia in 2015. The 2027 tournament will end an absence spanning the 2019 and 2023 editions, restoring the national team to a competition with an important place in the country’s football history.

Qualification was secured in June 2024 through a narrow victory over Afghanistan. As the Asian Football Confederation reported, Eid Al Rashedi scored in the 81st minute to deliver a 1–0 win, taking Kuwait to seven points in its qualifying group and securing a place at the Asian Cup.

The finals draw subsequently placed Kuwait alongside Saudi Arabia, Oman and Palestine in Group A. That creates a sequence of regional encounters during a tournament being hosted by Saudi Arabia for the first time.

The opening fixture carries particular weight for supporters organising a short visit. It offers a defined occasion around which to arrange travel, without requiring a commitment to follow the team throughout the month-long competition.

Building a holiday around the opening match

Al Raya’s Aquarabia itinerary is advertised from KD199 per person sharing a double room. The published inclusions are flights, hotel accommodation with breakfast, a Kuwait–Oman match ticket and admission to the water theme park.

Its Six Flags alternative carries the same advertised starting price and travel dates, substituting admission to Six Flags Qiddiya City. These are separate packages, rather than a single offer covering both parks.

The pricing basis matters. At the listed starting rate, two adults sharing a double room would have a combined package price of KD398. That is a calculation from the advertised per-person price, not a confirmed quotation or a statement that every departure and room remains available at that rate.

The published summaries also do not identify the airline, hotel or stadium seating category. Those details determine the precise trip being purchased and distinguish one package from another even where the headline price is similar.

What is clear from the itineraries is their structure: arrival is scheduled for the day before Kuwait’s opener, with the trip continuing beyond the match. Football supplies the fixed date, while the park visit supplies a separate activity within the same stay.

Qiddiya gives the itinerary a new destination

The attractions included in these trips are part of a recent change in Saudi Arabia’s visitor offering.

According to Qiddiya’s own development update, Six Flags Qiddiya City welcomed its first guests in December 2025. Aquarabia subsequently welcomed invited visitors during a March soft opening, with the developer describing the two attractions as the core of its two-park destination.

That timeline gives the January packages a specific context. Al Raya is combining Kuwait’s return to a longstanding football competition with attractions that have only recently begun receiving guests.

The two park options also demonstrate how the same match can underpin different itineraries. One centres the additional outing on a water theme park, while the other includes Six Flags. The football commitment remains the same, but the surrounding visit changes.

This is evidence of how the agency is constructing its offers, rather than proof of a broader shift in Kuwaiti travel demand. The package pages do not publish booking volumes or indicate how many supporters have selected either option. Their significance lies in the connection being made between the tournament and destinations beyond its venues.

One match or a journey across three cities

Following Kuwait beyond its opener would involve a substantially different trip.

The AFC’s published tournament schedule places Kuwait’s match against Oman at King Saud University Stadium in Riyadh on 8 January. The team then faces Palestine at Aramco Stadium in Al Khobar on 12 January, before meeting Saudi Arabia at King Abdullah Sports City in Jeddah on 17 January.

Supporting the team at all three group matches therefore involves three host cities over ten calendar days. A package built around the opening weekend serves a different purpose from an itinerary covering the full group stage.

Al Raya’s published booking terms explain that prices and availability can change before ticket issuance or final confirmation, while amendments and refunds depend on the relevant supplier’s conditions. These distinctions are particularly relevant when a trip combines several separately supplied services.

For now, the agency’s opening-match packages show how Kuwait’s qualification is translating into specific travel plans. The team’s first appointment is in Riyadh on 8 January; the itineraries being offered around it extend that occasion into a visit that continues after the final whistle.
