The Kuwait News Agency reported that His Highness the Crown Prince and the accompanying official delegation landed at Zurich International Airport on Sunday morning to begin the visit to the Swiss Confederation. Kuwaiti Ambassador to Switzerland Yousef Abdul Samad led the reception party at the airport along with Assistant Foreign Minister for European Affairs Najeeb Al-Bader and Permanent Representative to the United Nations and other international organizations in Geneva Nasser Al-Hayen. The Kuwait News Agency added that members of the diplomatic mission were also present to welcome the Crown Prince who is scheduled to hold talks in Bern on bilateral cooperation and shared international priorities.
According to the Kuwait News Agency the visit follows the Crown Prince’s engagements at the 80th session of the UN General Assembly where he met with several world leaders on the sidelines. KUNA noted that the trip underscores the strong ties between Kuwait and Switzerland which this year mark six decades since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1966. A KUNA review of bilateral developments highlighted mutual visits by senior officials and coordination on regional issues as key elements of the partnership.
KUNA data places Kuwaiti investments in Switzerland by the sovereign wealth fund at more than 15 billion dollars reflecting sustained confidence in the Swiss economic environment. The two sides have signed multiple agreements over the years including a 1998 pact to promote and protect investments and a 2019 protocol updating double taxation avoidance measures. In May 2025 the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development and the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation signed a memorandum of understanding on development cooperation KUNA reported.
The Kuwait News Agency stated that the Crown Prince’s itinerary in Switzerland includes meetings with senior Swiss officials to explore ways to expand cooperation in economic investment and political fields. Earlier encounters between Kuwaiti and Swiss leadership included the Crown Prince’s September 2024 meeting with then-Swiss President Viola Amherd on the margins of the UN General Assembly in New York. KUNA indicated that such interactions have helped advance dialogue on global challenges and reinforced the two countries’ alignment on matters of mutual interest.
Switzerland opened its embassy in Kuwait in 1975 while Kuwait established its embassy in Bern in 2006 according to historical records compiled by KUNA. The Kuwait News Agency pointed to the inauguration of a new Swiss embassy building in Kuwait’s Qadsiya area in October 2025 as a recent milestone attended by senior figures from both nations. In January 2026 Swiss President Guy Parmelin paid an official visit to Kuwait where he held talks with the Amir the Crown Prince and the Prime Minister KUNA detailed.
KUNA described the relationship as a model of successful diplomacy built on shared values and practical collaboration across sectors. The agency noted that the current visit by the Crown Prince aims to build on these foundations by identifying new avenues for partnership particularly in trade and development initiatives. Officials from both sides are expected to review progress on existing agreements during the discussions in Bern.
