The Kuwaiti Federation for Sport for All announced on Jan. 21 that Kuwait Sports Day will take place Feb. 7 at Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Bridge under the patronage of Minister of Information and Culture Abdulrahman Al-Mutairi. Federation president Faisal Al-Maqseed said the event aims to transform sport into a daily habit and positive social culture embraced by all segments of society, according to an Arab Times report. The bridge venue carries national symbolism tied to Kuwait’s modern development while the federation coordinates with authorities for safety and the Public Authority for Sport provides full support.
Al-Maqseed stated that the national initiative motivates citizens and residents to participate in physical activity in a safe and well-organized setting. He emphasized that strong government backing and the authority’s involvement underscore efforts to promote public health and foster an active balanced community. The federation president added that Kuwait Sports Day has become a fixed annual date on the national events calendar.
A 2025 study published in The Open Public Health Journal found that 35.3 percent of 679 surveyed Kuwaiti adults fell into the low physical activity category with 28.9 percent achieving high levels according to researcher S. Alsalahi. The data revealed significant associations between physical activity levels age and body mass index with higher activity linked to younger age and lower BMI. These figures from the study highlight ongoing challenges in reducing sedentary behaviors across the population.
An earlier analysis available via the National Institutes of Health pointed to a high prevalence of sedentary behaviors even among Kuwaiti physical education college students with elevated activity levels. The World Health Organization’s 2022 Kuwait country profile documented substantial rates of insufficient physical activity among adults aged 18 and older. Such contextual data has shaped the federation’s approach to annual events designed to encourage broader participation.
Kuwait Times reported that the third edition of the event drew thousands of participants who engaged in walking running and additional activities. Faisal Al-Maqseed described the initiative in post-event coverage as part of a wider government roadmap to promote sports engagement throughout the year. KUNA separately noted that race kits for the February gathering were distributed at Al-Shaheed Park in advance.
The program has featured a 5-kilometer walk or run along with cycling options open free to citizens and expatriates of all ages starting from early morning on the causeway. Previous editions organized by the federation have followed a similar format to maximize accessibility and turnout. The Ministry of State for Youth Affairs has maintained involvement through ministerial patronage each year.
Al-Maqseed has repeatedly positioned the day as a tool for integrating physical activity into everyday routines across Kuwaiti society. The event’s consistent scheduling reflects coordinated planning between the federation relevant ministries and the Public Authority for Sport. Growing participation numbers reported in local coverage indicate expanding public response to these national health promotion efforts.
