The Embassy of India in Kuwait organised the Viksit Bharat Run at Boulevard Park in Salmiya on October 2 as a short marathon that drew enthusiastic participation from the Indian diaspora along with Kuwaiti residents and other friends of India. According to the embassy the event formed part of the global Seva Pakhwada fortnight of service activities observed from September 17 to October 2 to mark Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s birthday and Gandhi Jayanti. The gathering underscored the community’s active role in promoting fitness unity and national pride while aligning with India’s long-term development goals. Ministry of External Affairs data places the Indian community in Kuwait at approximately one million people making it the largest expatriate group in the country and a key contributor to multiple economic sectors.

A statement from the embassy described the turnout of more than 1,600 runners as evidence of strong support for the Viksit Bharat vision which aims to transform India into a developed nation by 2047 the centenary of its independence. The run offered both two-kilometre and four-kilometre options and began early in the morning to encourage families and individuals to participate together. Embassy officials noted that similar events took place in more than 150 locations across 91 countries during the same period reflecting a coordinated global effort by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports in partnership with the Ministry of External Affairs. The Kuwait gathering added to momentum seen in other Gulf cities where thousands joined comparable runs in the preceding weeks.

The Indian community maintains deep roots in Kuwait where its members work across healthcare education engineering construction and business domains. Times Kuwait reporting on bilateral ties has highlighted how Indian professionals number around 900,000 and constitute nearly 30 percent of the local workforce while Indian schools in the country educate more than 50,000 children. According to embassy records community associations regularly organise socio-cultural and humanitarian programmes that strengthen people-to-people connections between India and Kuwait. The Viksit Bharat Run built on this foundation by combining physical activity with a collective pledge toward national development objectives.

Organisers framed the event as more than a fitness activity emphasising its role in fostering a sense of shared purpose among participants. The embassy reported that attendees included professionals students families and members of various Indian associations registered with the mission. Similar community mobilisation has occurred in previous years with the 11th International Day of Yoga held at the same Salmiya location drawing over 1,500 people in June 2025 according to Times Kuwait coverage. These recurring initiatives demonstrate sustained engagement by the Indian mission and diaspora in promoting wellness and cultural exchange within Kuwaiti society.

Regional benchmarks show parallel Viksit Bharat Runs attracting thousands elsewhere in the Gulf including an event in Dubai that drew roughly 3,000 participants in late September 2026 as reported by Gulf News. The embassy in Kuwait said the local success reflected the community’s readiness to contribute to India’s progress while continuing to support Kuwait’s own development priorities under its Vision 2035 framework. Coordination between the embassy and community groups ensured smooth execution of the run and associated activities. Participation extended beyond Indian nationals to include Kuwaitis and other residents who expressed solidarity with the Viksit Bharat goals.

The Embassy of India in Kuwait has pursued a series of dialogues and cultural programmes throughout 2026 to deepen bilateral understanding including the launch of Viksit Bharat 2047 India-Kuwait Dialogues earlier in the year. According to embassy announcements these platforms facilitate exchanges on economic policy technology and people-to-people ties that complement the community-focused events such as the recent run. The October 2 gathering concluded with expressions of commitment to continued collaboration between the diaspora and the mission. Such activities reinforce the role of the Indian community as a living bridge between the two strategic partners.
