The Ministry of Interior detailed two separate cases handled by the General Directorate of Traffic’s Security Control Department in Jahra Governorate on Tuesday. In the first, patrol officers observed one suspect driving a motorcycle with reckless abandon in a zone not designated for such vehicles. When instructed to halt, the rider attempted to flee, struck the patrol car and was subdued after a brief confrontation. A second patrol independently identified another motorcyclist engaged in comparable reckless conduct in a prohibited location, resulting in a swift arrest without resistance.
According to the ministry statement, both individuals received citations for operating motorcycles in non-permitted spaces, reckless driving and placing themselves along with other road users in danger. The first suspect faced an extra charge for disregarding stop commands and attempting evasion, prompting referral to central prison, while the second, determined to be a juvenile, was directed to the Department for the Protection of Juveniles. Enforcement concluded with both motorcycles dispatched to a crusher under applicable regulations, the ministry added.
The General Traffic Department has intensified monitoring of dangerous behaviors as part of sustained road safety initiatives. Department records indicate 22,012 traffic accidents took place nationwide in the first six months of 2026, a period that also saw 538 motorcycles impounded for assorted infractions. A study in Discover Civil Engineering identified males aged 18 to 34 who commute daily by motorcycle as a high-risk group for crashes and near-misses in Kuwait.
Updated traffic legislation that entered force in 2025 has expanded penalties to address such violations more stringently. Reckless or negligent driving now risks imprisonment of one to three years together with fines from 600 to 1,000 Kuwaiti dinars, or one of those sanctions. The ministry has underscored that these provisions will be invoked without exception against behaviors that compromise public safety.
In its announcement the General Directorate of Traffic cautioned motorcycle riders against any maneuvers that jeopardize personal or collective road safety. The department stated that failure to obey lawful police orders would invite uncompromising legal repercussions. Ongoing patrols target zones with elevated violation rates to curb accidents and reinforce compliance across Kuwait.
