The Kuwaiti Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement on October 11 condemning in the strongest terms the Houthi attack on Riyadh’s main airport. Such hostile acts not only target civilian infrastructure but also pose a direct threat to regional air travel and public safety. The ministry called for the international community to respond firmly to prevent recurrence of these violations.
Saudi officials reported that the strike resulted in 12 fatalities among passengers and airport staff from multiple nationalities. The dead included four Saudis, two Bangladeshis and individuals from the United States, Egypt, Jordan, Syria, Palestine and Sudan. In addition, 309 people sustained injuries, some of them critical, as authorities began assessing the extent of material damage at the site.
The foreign ministry described the assault as a flagrant breach of international law and international humanitarian law. It noted that the systematic targeting of civilian facilities and vital installations constitutes a dangerous escalation. Those responsible must be held accountable to deter further threats to civilian lives and aviation safety.
Kuwait expressed its complete solidarity with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in the face of this aggression. The statement backed all steps Riyadh takes to defend its security, stability and residents. It stressed that the security of Saudi Arabia is inseparable from that of Kuwait and the other GCC member states.
The Amir of Kuwait sent personal condolences to King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud over the casualties suffered in the attack. This message extended sympathy to the families of the victims from various countries. Officials also wished a speedy recovery to all those injured in the incident.
Saudi-led coalition forces separately intercepted a ballistic missile headed for Al-Kharj and destroyed a drone over the Eastern Province, an area that includes Dammam. These actions came in the wake of the main airport strike that prompted Kuwait Airways to cancel flights to and from Riyadh. The incidents highlight the continued challenges to Saudi airspace from Houthi militia operations.
Kuwait has a record of issuing similar condemnations following past Houthi attacks on Saudi territory, according to statements carried by the Kuwait News Agency. The latest expression of support underscores the deep alliance between the two countries. The ministry reiterated its call for global action to address the root causes of such repeated aggressions.
