The Ministry of Interior announced that the General Traffic Department’s Security Control Department arrested two drivers for reckless driving that endangered road users in the Al-Wafra agricultural area, with both suspects referred to Central Prison after legal procedures concluded. Officers acted on information about planned gatherings for dangerous stunts and located the vehicles concealed on a local farm through investigation and surveillance. In coordination with the Public Authority for Agriculture Affairs and Fish Resources, the two cars were seized from the site.

According to the ministry’s statement, the vehicles were crushed following completion of all formalities under Article 33 bis of the Traffic Law, which targets reckless and negligent driving. The ministry stressed that such measures form part of ongoing monitoring to deter behaviors that put lives and property at risk across Kuwait. This latest operation underscores a zero-tolerance approach that has been applied consistently in recent campaigns.

General Directorate of Traffic statistics show that reckless and negligent driving resulted in 1,653 violations between April and August 2026, a period when total traffic infractions exceeded 1.1 million. Speeding led the list with 415,806 cases during those five months, followed by illegal parking and mobile phone use while driving, the directorate’s data places. These figures illustrate the scale of enforcement efforts even as overall compliance improves under tightened regulations.

The ministry said in its announcement that anyone endangering lives through irresponsible driving will face prescribed legal action without exception, with patrols continuing around the clock. This stance aligns with directives aimed at fostering a culture of road safety and reducing incidents that have historically strained emergency services. Similar operations in prior months have involved multiple arrests and vehicle destructions to send a clear message to potential violators.

Implementation of the updated traffic law has contributed to a 55 percent reduction in road fatalities since its rollout, a senior interior ministry official reported in mid-2025. Security sources noted a sharp drop in reckless driving cases in the months immediately after the law took effect, with violations falling by more than 65 percent in one measured quarter. The vehicle crushing policy remains a cornerstone of these reforms, reinforcing accountability for actions that disrupt public order and safety.
