Zain Kuwait Backs 22nd Asian Men’s Handball Championship Hosted by Kuwait
Arab Times reported on January 20 that Zain Kuwait sponsored the 22nd Asian Men’s Handball Championship in Kuwait. Fifteen teams competed at the Sheikh Saad Al-Abdullah Sports Halls Complex through January 29 for qualification to the 2027 IHF Men’s World Championship in Germany. The national team won its first three preliminary round matches, leading Zain to urge fans to continue backing Al-Azraq.
Arab Times reported that the sponsorship continued Zain Kuwait’s support for significant sports tournaments hosted in the country. The firm has maintained a strategic partnership with the Kuwait Handball Association for some time. It previously sponsored the 10th Arab Handball Cup in Kuwait the year prior, which was marked by strong public engagement and high organizational standards. Hamad Al-Musaibeeh, the company’s Corporate Relations and Communications Director, presented the Match MVP award to Haider Dashti after the preliminary match versus Hong Kong.
This gesture illustrated Zain’s dedication to recognizing exceptional performances by national team members. The director’s presence at the event emphasized the depth of the sponsorship. At that time the Kuwaiti side had advanced with a flawless record from the group stage. Supporters were asked to maintain their backing for the team in subsequent rounds.
IHF figures confirm the participation of 15 teams from across the continent in the championship. Kuwait has organized the Asian championship on four occasions including the 2026 edition, following events in 1977, 1995 and 2020. The Kuwait Handball Association oversaw the latest hosting. The national side has claimed four Asian titles according to the association’s published achievements.
Those victories came in 1995 on home soil as well as in 2002, 2004 and 2006. Such accomplishments have positioned Kuwait prominently within the Asian handball community. The qualifier format allowed multiple teams to advance to the 2027 world event in Germany. Bahrain ultimately claimed the championship title with Qatar as runner-up, per post-tournament IHF data.
A February report from Kuwait Times indicated that Zain Kuwait had successfully wrapped up its sponsorship of the tournament. The company has built a reputation for partnering with local sports bodies on various occasions.
