Several carriers are expanding operations at Terminal 4 of Kuwait International Airport with the resumption of flights this week, signaling steady recovery in regional air traffic after a period of suspensions and delays. Qatar Airways will restart its daily service between Doha and Kuwait City on June 21 from the terminal, according to announcements reported by Arab Times on June 20, 2026. Gulf Air, Nesma Airlines and Nile Airways began services on June 20 while Etihad Airways is scheduled to follow on June 23 and Oman Air on June 25, the newspaper added.

The Public Authority for Civil Aviation has overseen the phased reopening of Terminal 4 to accommodate more Gulf, Arab and international carriers since mid-June 2026. Earlier statements from the authority indicated that the initial phase allowed participating airlines one daily flight each between 4:00 a.m. and 10:00 p.m. as part of efforts to gradually restore capacity and reduce pressure on airport infrastructure. Qatar Airways has reinstated 85 percent of its pre-crisis operational levels and introduced two new roles to strengthen operational oversight alongside unified customer engagement, the carrier said in a statement.

Kuwait International Airport reported that normal operations have resumed across affected routes with flight schedules adjusted back to regular timings. The facility advised all passengers to confirm updates directly with their airlines or through official channels before traveling to avoid disruptions at the terminal. This approach forms part of coordinated measures between the airport and the Directorate General of Civil Aviation to maintain service reliability.

In parallel developments the International Civil Aviation Organization Council reiterated support for Kuwait during its 238th session attended by 93 representatives. The Public Authority for Civil Aviation circulated a formal letter of protest regarding Iranian attacks on the airport and civil aviation facilities among member states while the session also examined a working paper submitted by Iran, according to authority statements. Kuwait’s delegation led by PACA Chairman Sheikh Eng. Humoud Mubarak Al-Humoud Al-Sabah expressed appreciation for the position taken by ICAO, its council members and the Arab group on safeguarding civil aviation.

Undersecretary of the Ministry of Interior Major General Abdulwahab Al-Wuhaib inspected security procedures at Terminal 4 on June 20. He reviewed identity verification for arriving and departing passengers along with baggage screening protocols during the visit, the ministry said. Al-Wuhaib highlighted the requirement for high standards of accuracy, vigilance and professionalism noting that airport staff serve as the country’s first point of contact with visitors and he praised their preparedness, discipline and dedication.

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation previously outlined that Terminal 4’s expanded role would ease congestion and deliver modern facilities meeting international comfort standards for travelers. Aviation Week reported in May 2026 that Kuwait Airways had already initiated a phased return to 29 destinations from the terminal following earlier limitations. This progression aligns with the flexible gate system at Terminal 4 designed to support additional carrier growth as detailed in project assessments by AECOM.
