The Ministry of Commerce and Industry conducted an emergency market inspection campaign in Al-Ahmadi Governorate that led to the immediate closure of two retail shops found selling counterfeit products. Inspectors confiscated a total of 2,059 items as violation reports were filed against those responsible and referred for legal action under commercial regulations. The ministry’s statement emphasised that such operations form a core element of its mandate to safeguard consumer interests and intellectual property across Kuwaiti markets. Similar enforcement actions have increased in frequency as authorities target distribution networks for fake goods that undermine legitimate businesses.

According to the ministry’s inventory the seized consignment comprised handbags, shoes, watches, accessories and eyeglasses produced for both men and women. All items carried trademarks of well-known international luxury brands that had been replicated without authorisation. The operation removed the entire stock from circulation to prevent further misleading sales to unsuspecting buyers. This level of detail in the tally underscores the scale of the single-day intervention in one governorate.

The Ministry of Commerce and Industry has sustained a series of parallel campaigns throughout the country to combat commercial fraud and enforce trade laws. In one such effort detailed by the ministry in August 2024 commercial control teams seized more than 720 pieces of counterfeit luxury goods including women’s bags, hats, wallets and shoes at the Friday Market in the Al-Rai area. A separate ministry announcement from June 2024 placed the haul at 6,000 counterfeit pieces after nine stores were closed inside a Salmiya mall with those in charge referred to the Commercial Prosecution. These repeated actions demonstrate a consistent pattern of market surveillance by the same directorate.

Ministry figures show that sustained enforcement has produced measurable outcomes for Kuwait’s standing on intellectual property protection. A 2024 statement carried on the Kuwait Government Online portal noted that the country’s name had been lifted from lists of nations flagged for intellectual property violations thanks to the Commercial Protection Department’s strict controls on counterfeit trade. The latest Al-Ahmadi operation fits within that longer record of activity that includes a February 2026 seizure of roughly 800 counterfeit women’s shoes and handbags reported by the ministry. Inspectors continue to prioritise high-risk retail locations where luxury replicas are most frequently offered.

The Directorate of Commercial Control within the ministry coordinates these inspections with other government bodies to maintain regulatory compliance. Data from earlier campaigns indicate that counterfeit luxury accessories and apparel remain the predominant categories intercepted during routine and emergency sweeps. By closing the two shops on the spot the ministry prevented any continued operation while the legal cases proceed. Such swift measures are intended to deter similar violations in neighbouring commercial districts.

Further details released by the ministry highlighted that the emergency campaign responded to specific indicators of irregular trading in the governorate. The 2,059 items represent one of the larger single-site hauls recorded in recent months when compared with prior ministry tallies from other regions. Officials have signalled that additional inspection rounds are scheduled across remaining governorates to maintain pressure on counterfeit supply lines. All confiscated goods are held as evidence pending completion of the prosecution process.
