Kuwait’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement denouncing what it described as persistent Iranian aggression following drone strikes that hit a government installation in the north of the country and civilian vehicles belonging to a private firm on Bubiyan Island. The ministry characterized the assaults as a flagrant breach of Kuwaiti sovereignty that also threatened national security and stability while violating international law, the United Nations Charter, principles of good neighborliness and UN Security Council Resolution 2817. That resolution, adopted on March 11 according to United Nations records, had already condemned earlier Iranian strikes on Gulf states and Jordan as breaches of international law that targeted civilian objects and produced casualties. The foreign ministry underscored that such repeated actions reflected a hostile pattern undermining broader regional security and affirmed Kuwait’s right to adopt all measures required to protect its territory, resources and population.

The Ministry of Defense separately reported that Kuwaiti armed forces detected the hostile drones entering national airspace from dawn on August 1 and successfully intercepted them. Official spokesperson Col. Saud Al-Atwan detailed how the drones struck both the government facility in northern Kuwait and the civilian vehicles on Bubiyan Island, producing material damage from falling debris. While the defense ministry assessment found no casualties from the strikes themselves, diplomatic exchanges referenced the death of a worker at a Chinese company facility hit during the incident. Kuwaiti forces remained on high alert and continued coordination with other authorities to preserve sovereignty and stability, the spokesperson added.

Foreign Minister Sheikh Jarrah Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah held telephone talks with Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al-Saud later on August 1 to review regional developments. The conversation focused on diplomatic steps to reduce tensions, maintain regional security and guarantee safe international maritime navigation in surrounding waters. Both sides emphasized the need for de-escalation amid the latest strikes, according to details released by the Kuwaiti side.

Saudi Arabia moved swiftly to condemn the Iranian actions against both Kuwait and Jordan, extending full solidarity to the affected countries. Riyadh expressed condolences specifically over the worker killed in Kuwait and called for an immediate halt to strikes on civilian areas and vital infrastructure. The response formed part of a wider pattern of Gulf Cooperation Council support that has deepened since the adoption of UN Security Council Resolution 2817 in March, which determined that Iranian attacks on the region constituted a serious threat to international peace and security.

GCC Secretary-General Jassem Al-Budaiwi joined the chorus of condemnation, describing the drone strikes as a clear violation of international law and Kuwaiti sovereignty. The Gulf bloc reiterated its complete backing for any steps Kuwait might take to defend its security and stability. Jordan, Palestine and Yemen similarly denounced the attacks as dangerous escalations that endangered regional peace, each reaffirming Kuwait’s legitimate right to protect its citizens and territory against such threats.

China voiced opposition to strikes on civilians and non-military sites, urging all parties to show restraint and settle differences through dialogue. Beijing confirmed that none of its nationals suffered injury in the strike on a Chinese-linked facility in Kuwait, although a Nepalese employee died, and stated that it maintained close contact with Kuwaiti officials over the safety of Chinese citizens and businesses in the country. The latest incident follows a series of earlier confrontations, including an alleged May infiltration attempt by Iranian Revolutionary Guard elements on Bubiyan Island that Kuwaiti authorities said resulted in an exchange of fire and arrests, according to contemporaneous reports from regional monitors.
