The Commercial Control and Consumer Protection Department reported the seizure of 390 used car tires from a warehouse in Jleeb Al-Shuyoukh that had been storing, cleaning, refurbishing and reconditioning old tires for resale to consumers. Inspectors uncovered specialized equipment used to polish and renew the tires during the operation. The Capital Governorate inspection team led the raid as part of routine commercial oversight in the area.

Following surveillance, the inspection team coordinated with the Ministry of Interior’s Farwaniya Governorate Criminal Investigations Department to carry out the action on Sunday. This joint effort resulted in the issuance of a violation report against the warehouse. Legal procedures are now underway against those responsible through the relevant authorities.

The Ministry of Commerce and Industry has intensified such inspection campaigns across industrial zones and neighborhoods in recent months. In July the ministry seized 290 used tires from a container in Shuwaikh that was similarly used to store and refurbish tires, according to ministry statements. That case also involved plans to deport an expatriate operator identified during the raid.

Stockpiles of used tires create notable fire hazards, a concern the civil defence authority highlighted after the June 2024 Mangaf blaze that killed at least 49 workers. The ministry has therefore targeted unlicensed storage and refurbishment sites to reduce risks in densely populated districts. Jleeb Al-Shuyoukh has featured in multiple past campaigns addressing these violations.

Ministry data shows another raid earlier this month netted 1,430 refurbished tires from a separate warehouse prepared for sale. These repeated actions form part of a wider enforcement drive to uphold consumer protection standards and remove unsafe products from the market. Coordination among commercial, interior and local governorate teams has become standard in these operations.

The Public Authority for Industry has previously flagged the spread of unlicensed workshops in areas with large expatriate communities. Proper regulation of end-of-life tires remains a priority within national safety and environmental policies. Authorities continue to document and act on surveillance findings from similar facilities.
