The General Administration of Customs announced that its Investigation and Search Department had identified a suspicious air cargo shipment arriving from Pakistan for detailed examination. Officers working in coordination with the General Administration for Drug Control discovered the concealed substances during the inspection process at the customs facility. This action prevented the narcotics from entering the local market according to the administration’s statement.

According to the General Administration of Customs three panels contained approximately one kilogram of heroin while a fourth held 250 grams of crystalline methamphetamine. The breakdown brought the overall seizure to precisely 1.25 kilograms of narcotics. The substances were extracted and secured as evidence in the air cargo area.

The administration reported that an Asian national suspected of direct involvement was arrested at the scene shortly after the discovery. Both the individual and the seized materials were transferred to competent authorities for formal investigation and legal proceedings. The handover followed established protocols between customs and drug control units.

A 2026 UNODC assessment found that synthetic drug trafficking attempts through air routes from South Asia have increased across the Middle East in recent years. The report placed Kuwait among nations facing such inbound threats amid a global rise in drug use that reached an estimated 331 million people in 2024. Regional enforcement bodies have responded with heightened screening measures at ports of entry.

Kuwait Customs has carried out multiple significant interceptions over the past year including one case involving 16 kilograms of marijuana and five kilograms of methamphetamine detailed in a 2026 EUDA strategic assessment. The US State Department’s International Narcotics Control Strategy Report for 2025 noted Kuwait’s continued development of counter-narcotics capabilities through inter-agency collaboration and technology upgrades. These patterns illustrate the scale of ongoing trafficking pressures in the Gulf.

The General Administration of Customs stated that it maintains rigorous controls at all entry points to counter evolving smuggling methods. Officials indicated that such operations form part of sustained monitoring designed to safeguard national security and public health. Coordination with specialized drug control units has remained central to these efforts.
