The General Directorate of Traffic issued 33,592 traffic violations during intensified campaigns across Kuwait’s governorates from August 10 to 16. The operations by the Traffic and Operations Affairs Sector also resulted in the impoundment of 640 vehicles and eight motorcycles for serious offenses. Authorities detained 26 individuals in traffic custody during the period and referred eight juveniles to the Juvenile Prosecution for legal procedures.
The directorate’s Operations Department dealt with 2,233 traffic reports in the same timeframe according to its announcement. Patrols followed up on 764 collision incidents including 144 that involved injuries with all cases referred to relevant police stations. Officers worked to maintain smooth traffic flow as part of the enforcement push.
Five individuals suspected of possessing narcotic substances were arrested in the course of the campaigns the General Directorate of Traffic reported. Four others found in abnormal conditions were referred to the General Department for Combating Drugs. These actions formed part of the integrated security measures undertaken alongside routine traffic enforcement.
The campaigns led to the detention of 50 individuals with expired residency permits and 14 people without official identification documents according to the directorate’s figures. Police apprehended 40 wanted individuals and seized 25 wanted vehicles transferring them to competent authorities. The General Directorate of Traffic which is responsible for driving licenses vehicle registration and violation collection outlined the results in its Wednesday statement.
For comparison a Ministry of Interior campaign from June 15 to 21 recorded 17,467 traffic citations and the impoundment of 359 vehicles and five motorcycles Kuwait Times reported citing the ministry. The directorate logged more than 351,000 violations nationwide in the first half of 2026 according to its compiled statistics. Similar weekly operations have produced violation counts ranging from 17,000 to more than 25,000 in recent months.
The General Directorate of Traffic announced that field campaigns will continue across the country’s governorates. It called on motorists to comply with all traffic regulations and instructions. Adherence to the rules supports efforts to prevent accidents and protect lives the directorate stated.
