The Public Authority for Food and Nutrition reported that inspectors from its Farwaniya area Inspection Department, in cooperation with the Farwaniya Investigations Department, shut down an illegal food manufacturing and trading operation being run from a private residence on August 4. The raid was conducted after the authorities received a report alleging that a house was being used to produce and sell food in violation of health and food safety regulations. During the inspection, officials documented several violations and issued an official citation against those responsible. The violations included operating a food establishment without a valid health license, allowing a worker without a health certificate to handle and trade food, and failing to comply with mandatory technical and public health requirements.
According to the Public Authority for Food and Nutrition, using private homes for the commercial production or sale of food without proper authorization is a clear violation of the law and poses a potential risk to consumer health. The authority stated that it will continue conducting intensive inspection campaigns across the country in coordination with relevant agencies to detect illegal food operations and ensure compliance with food safety regulations. It added that strict legal action will be taken against violators as part of ongoing efforts to protect public health, safeguard consumers, and ensure that food sold in Kuwait meets approved health and safety standards.
The operation forms part of a pattern of heightened activity by the Public Authority for Food and Nutrition this year. Times Kuwait reported that the authority destroyed 195.2 kilograms of meat in Farwaniya on July 31 after recording a violation for handling adulterated food, two violations for workers without health certificates, and one against an employer for permitting such work. In March the authority shut down five food outlets over spoiled and other violations, a regulatory update from Lexis Middle East indicated.
Food Inspection Supervisor for the Capital Governorate Mohammed Al-Kandari discussed the authority’s inspection campaigns targeting meat shops and slaughterhouses in Mubarakiya Market during an appearance on Kuwait Television’s “Good Morning Kuwait” program. He emphasized that regular inspections are being carried out to ensure meat safety and verify compliance with health regulations. The Public Authority for Food and Nutrition has also marked World Food Safety Day with a campaign of educational and interactive activities aimed at different segments of society to promote safe food practices, according to Kuwait Times.
