The Public Authority for Food and Nutrition said its Capital Governorate Inspection Department confiscated 108 kilograms of spoiled meat during an operation on September 8 after the product displayed noticeable alterations in natural color, texture and smell. According to the authority the meat also gave off abnormal odors and showed evidence that official slaughter-date seals had been removed in an apparent attempt to mislead buyers. The authority stated that seizure reports were completed, the consignment scheduled for supervised destruction and legal measures opened against the responsible parties.

A Public Authority for Food and Nutrition statement placed the action within a sequence of regular governorate-wide campaigns that have already accounted for roughly 300 kilograms of rotten meat and related items removed from circulation since July. The authority’s August campaign in the same governorate netted approximately 180 kilograms of beef and mutton with similar tampering while a separate Capital sweep at the end of that month destroyed an additional 134 kilograms of thawed meat sold as fresh. These figures drawn from successive authority releases demonstrate consistent enforcement across storage facilities and retail outlets.

Public Authority for Food and Nutrition data shows that meat and poultry items constitute the largest share of confiscated goods in annual inspection rounds with teams conducting more than 5,000 visits yearly across Kuwait. The authority coordinates with the Ministry of Interior and municipal branches to verify health certificates, storage temperatures and licensing compliance at every site. In the latest Capital Governorate case inspectors worked alongside security personnel to ensure immediate closure of the violating section pending full review.

According to Central Statistical Bureau statistics Kuwait imports more than 60,000 tons of red meat and poultry each year making rigorous border-to-counter oversight essential to protect the local market. The Public Authority for Food and Nutrition has expanded its laboratory testing capacity in recent years to provide faster confirmation of spoilage with results from the Ministry of Health laboratory frequently cited in enforcement decisions. Such collaboration has reduced the time between detection and removal of hazardous stock from days to hours in many documented cases.

The authority noted that all destroyed material is weighed documented and transferred through approved channels to prevent any re-entry into the food chain. Public Authority for Food and Nutrition officials have called on operators to maintain digital records of slaughter and expiration dates to streamline future inspections. Similar operations continue in other governorates with Jahra teams recently closing five establishments and issuing 40 citations after parallel violations were uncovered.
