The General Directorate for Drug Control conducted the operation in Ahmadi as part of its ongoing campaign against narcotics trafficking, the Ministry of Interior said in a statement. Officers targeted locations where the suspects were allegedly storing and distributing the illegal substances. The bust resulted in the detention of multiple individuals who have been referred to the public prosecution for further legal action along with the confiscated materials. All evidence gathered during the raids will support the cases against those charged.
The ministry’s tally listed 2.5 kilograms of hashish, 2 kilograms of marijuana and 2,500 Lyrica capsules among the seized items. Additional equipment used in the drug trade was also recovered during the raid according to the official report. The statement detailed that the substances were intended for both trafficking and personal consumption within local networks.
This latest action comes amid a series of similar operations by the directorate throughout 2026. In August the ministry reported its largest ever Lyrica seizure involving five tons of powder and nearly four million capsules, a Ministry of Interior assessment found. That operation led to the arrest of five suspects including three Kuwaitis and two expatriates from Jordan and Egypt.
The directorate’s efforts have focused on both local distribution networks and international smuggling routes. Data from the Ministry of Interior shows that hundreds of kilograms of various drugs have been taken out of circulation in recent months through these coordinated campaigns. The Ahmadi governorate has been a particular focus due to reported activity in the area.
Officials have stressed the importance of public cooperation in identifying drug-related activities. The ministry continues to conduct awareness programs alongside enforcement actions to reduce demand for such substances. Community involvement has proven effective in previous operations according to ministry figures.
In one recent case detailed by the ministry, 12 suspects were arrested in eight separate incidents with a range of drugs and weapons seized. Those operations netted over 2,500 Lyrica capsules and 1.7 kilograms of hashish among other items, the ministry reported. All cases are processed through the legal system to ensure strict enforcement of anti-drug laws.
