A representative from a company concluded a routine inspection of one of its properties in Jleeb Al-Shuyoukh on Sunday only to find that the door had been forced open. Upon entering the building the representative determined that all 37 air conditioning units stored inside had been removed. A security source told Al-Anba daily that the company official promptly filed a formal complaint at the local police station and supplied documents confirming both his role and the firm’s ownership of the site.
The Public Prosecution ordered detectives to carry out the required inquiries into the circumstances of the theft. Forensic specialists have been assigned to examine the scene and conduct a detailed site inspection in an effort to gather evidence and identify the still-unknown suspect. The case was formally registered at Jleeb Al-Shuyoukh police station as a felony under the heading of theft by breaking and entering.
Jleeb Al-Shuyoukh has been the target of repeated security campaigns by the Ministry of Interior aimed at addressing theft and related violations. The ministry reported that one such operation in late August resulted in the arrest of 45 individuals following multiple complaints of thefts, fires and other infractions in the district. Thirty-six of those detained were wanted on absenteeism charges while the remaining nine faced accusations linked to theft of electrical cables, copper, iron, vehicle parts and accessories.
The ministry stated that the August campaign formed part of sustained efforts to apprehend fugitives, reduce criminal activity and uphold legal standards throughout the neighborhood. Security forces have stepped up patrols and investigations in response to ongoing public reports of offenses in the area. A separate incident in September saw the arrest of an Arab expatriate accused of stealing household appliances from several homes in Jleeb.
That suspect confessed to more than 15 burglaries and guided investigators to a warehouse containing stolen goods according to a security source who spoke to Al-Anba. The individual allegedly used a pickup truck to transport the items before handing them to intermediaries who resold them as used goods at the Friday Market. Authorities referred the suspect to prosecutors to determine the full scope of the activities and complete legal proceedings.
Property owners in districts such as Jleeb Al-Shuyoukh have been encouraged to improve security at vacant buildings used for storage especially as demand for air conditioning components increases ahead of warmer months. Police continue to pursue leads in the latest theft while forensic results are pending. The findings from the ongoing investigation will be submitted to the Public Prosecution for appropriate action.
