The Kuwait Handball Federation notified clubs of the remaining fixtures for the 2025-26 season, with the First Division League resuming from round 10 on October 3 and the Premier League picking up from round 14 on October 8. The Federation Cup will follow on November 9 as part of a compressed calendar intended to conclude all domestic action by late November. This timetable comes after a period of suspension triggered by regional events that halted sports activities earlier in the year.

Salmiya Club became the second side to exit senior competitions when it opted against submitting a roster for the top flight in July, following a similar move by Qadsia. The club will now direct its resources toward youth categories as it restructures its handball program, a decision that frees its senior players to sign with other teams. Al Jarida newspaper reported the developments on July 7, citing informed sources close to the federation.

The exits have trimmed the Premier League to six participating clubs for the remainder of the campaign, a reduction that challenges the depth and competitiveness of matches. Both Qadsia and Salmiya had long ranked among Kuwait’s most storied handball organizations, and their absence leaves a gap in established rivalries. Al Shabab and Al Jahra have meanwhile expressed interest in rebuilding senior squads and returning to league competition next season.

Federation plans drawn up in May called for completion of the interrupted 2025-26 season during October and November to clear the way for national team preparations ahead of the IHF Men’s World Championship in Germany in January 2027. Domestic activity had been paused in February before restarting, requiring a revised schedule that balances club and international demands. Coordination with clubs ensured the fixture list accounted for player availability and external commitments.

The Kuwait Handball Association held its ordinary general assembly on October 5, where it endorsed Engineer Ahmad Al-Sharea as president for the remainder of the term and Mohammed Al-Khamis as assistant secretary-general. Secretary-General Gayed Al-Adwani noted the strong attendance and approval of administrative, financial and work-plan reports during the session. He stressed the need for collective focus on upcoming national team duties and domestic fixtures.

Recent Premier League standings and results reflect ongoing matches among the remaining clubs, including encounters involving Kuwait SC, Burgan SC and others in the lead-up to full resumption. The official association website has tracked these fixtures along with recent cup competitions. Completion of the current season will set the stage for promotion of two First Division teams to restore an eight-club Premier League in 2026-27.
