Kuwaiti media professional Moudhi Al Rashidi has won best documentary at the 10th Arab Media Excellence Awards, bringing recognition for “Grandchildren of Handala” at a ceremony in Cairo.
Moudhi Al Rashidi’s documentary “Grandchildren of Handala” has secured the best documentary award at the Arab Media Excellence Awards, placing the Kuwaiti production among the winning works recognised at the Arab League headquarters.
The result was announced on 4 November as the awards marked their tenth edition. Held under Kuwait’s patronage, the ceremony brought together media figures and officials from across the Arab world to recognise work spanning television, radio, print journalism and digital media.
KUNA’s announcement confirmed Kuwait’s documentary win and the recognition of four Kuwaiti media professionals for their careers. Al Rashidi’s award was attached specifically to “Grandchildren of Handala”, known in Arabic as «أحفاد حنظلة».
Recognition for a Kuwaiti documentary
Al Rashidi received the documentary prize within the television category. Al Ahram’s account of the results named her as the winner for the film, alongside Algeria’s Iman Aksil, who received the award for best television report.
The two awards recognised different forms of television production. Aksil’s winning report examined artificial intelligence and the protection of religious reference sources, while Al Rashidi’s work took the documentary category.
The distinction gives the Kuwaiti film a specific place in the results: it won the documentary award within a broader media competition covering several disciplines.
Kuwait’s presence at the Cairo ceremony
The event was attended by Kuwait’s acting Minister of Information and Culture, Omar Al Omar, and Arab League Secretary-General Nabil Fahmy.
Alongside the competitive awards, the ceremony recognised media professionals for their wider contributions. The Kuwaiti honourees included Maher Al Enezi, Nader Karam, Hessa Al Qadram and Manayer Al Qallaf, according to reporting on the ceremony.
Their recognition accompanied Al Rashidi’s film award, bringing together honours for an individual production and acknowledgements of longer professional careers.
Awards across Arab media
The wider programme recognised reporting and production across television, radio, print and digital platforms. Winners included work from Algeria, Morocco, Palestine, Egypt, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Jordan and Saudi Arabia.
Institutions were also honoured, including the Jordan Media Institute, Egypt’s Al Ahram organisation and the Arab States Broadcasting Union.
For Kuwait, “Grandchildren of Handala” was the winning documentary named in the results. The award places Al Rashidi and the film on the tenth edition’s list of recognised Arab media productions, alongside the country’s separately honoured media professionals.
