According to a security source, detectives from Jleeb Al-Shuyoukh solved 10 theft cases with the arrest of a Bedoun suspect in the Al-Rai area where they also recovered a vehicle that had been reported stolen. The source said the man used the car while dressed in traditional Kuwaiti clothing to stop expatriates in Farwaniya Governorate, claiming to be a police officer before taking their wallets. He then directed the victims to proceed to the police station to retrieve their belongings, a tactic that allowed him to escape with the items. The suspect has been referred to the Public Prosecution on charges of theft, impersonating a police officer and drug use.
The security source explained that three of the cases were filed at the Jleeb Al-Shuyoukh Police Station with the other seven reported in Khaitan and additional parts of Farwaniya. A specialized team was formed to identify the suspect through the consistent descriptions provided by the victims and to locate the stolen vehicle. Information that the car was at a shopping mall enabled the officers to set up an ambush leading to the arrest. The source added that the suspect confessed to the crimes during questioning.
Victims later identified the man in a formal lineup, completing the evidence against him, the security source reported. The suspect admitted that he had targeted expatriates, mainly Asians, because they were easier to approach in the area. His goal was to obtain money to support a drug habit, which formed the basis for the additional charge. The source confirmed that the vehicle was indeed the one reported stolen and used across all 10 incidents.
Public Authority for Civil Information figures place Kuwait’s expatriate population at roughly 3.3 million, more than two-thirds of the total residents. Many of these individuals live in the Farwaniya Governorate where the 10 incidents took place. The security source said the victims were primarily from Asian countries residing in the area.
The resolution of the cases followed the formation of a specialized team that gathered intelligence from the complaints and executed an operation based on a tip about the vehicle’s location. The source said the prompt identification and arrest were made possible by the similarity in the victim statements. The suspect’s confession and the lineup identifications provided the final elements for the case that has now been turned over to the Public Prosecution.
