Colonel Fahd Al-Essa, director of the traffic awareness department in the General Traffic Department, detailed plans for the intensified campaigns during a recent radio appearance. The operations will focus on both cars and motorcycles operated by delivery firms, with a particular emphasis on preventing use of sidewalks and pedestrian areas. Any vehicle stopped for such infractions will be subject to impoundment for a minimum of 60 days under standing regulations. This initiative forms part of a sustained push to align delivery operations with standard traffic requirements across Kuwait.

The General Traffic Department previously convened sessions with delivery company representatives to review recorded examples of unsafe practices. These included instances of riders mounting pavements, disregarding traffic signals and overtaking vehicles halted at lights, according to department statements. Al-Essa stressed that such conduct endangers pedestrians and fellow drivers alike in densely populated urban zones. Companies were reminded of their obligation to instruct staff on proper road conduct to avert penalties.

Administrative steps could follow for firms that do not actively work to curb violations among their fleets, the General Traffic Department indicated. Al-Essa noted that repeated infractions tied to a single operator may prompt formal measures against the company itself. The approach aims to distribute responsibility beyond individual riders to the businesses that deploy them daily. Officials presented visual evidence during the meetings to illustrate the scale of the problem.

A network of 370 monitoring cameras supports the General Traffic Department’s enforcement activities throughout the country. These systems have helped identify recurring patterns among delivery traffic, according to available department data. Al-Essa confirmed the cameras will supplement on-street patrols once the campaign begins on October 18. The technology enables more consistent detection of breaches that might otherwise go unaddressed in high-volume areas.

Delivery services have expanded rapidly in Kuwait in recent years, increasing the number of motorcycles and vans navigating city streets. The General Traffic Department has observed that this growth has sometimes led to shortcuts that encroach on pedestrian space. Al-Essa urged riders to adhere strictly to designated roadways to protect public safety. The warning on sidewalk use carries the same 60-day impoundment penalty as other listed violations.

Similar traffic compliance efforts have been coordinated with delivery operators in preceding months under directives from the Ministry of Interior. The latest campaign builds on those discussions by shifting toward active enforcement rather than warnings alone. Al-Essa advised companies to update their internal training ahead of the October 18 launch date. Authorities continue to monitor compliance through both human and automated means to maintain pressure on persistent offenders.
