The Public Authority for Food and Nutrition conducted a joint campaign with the Ministry of Interior in the Mubarak Al-Kabeer governorate that focused on food establishments and resulted in the recording of eight violations. According to the authority, these violations encompassed the sale of adulterated food products as well as breaches of health regulations, licensing requirements and health certificate rules. The inspection team seized 12.299 kilograms of adulterated food of unknown origin, which was promptly destroyed, and took legal action against the parties involved to enforce compliance with consumer protection standards.
This latest operation forms part of intensified efforts by the Public Authority for Food and Nutrition to eliminate the circulation of food unfit for human consumption across Kuwait. In the neighboring Hawalli governorate, a parallel campaign by the authority identified 32 violations, issued four reports on inedible items and obtained two pledges from operators to fix their practices, bringing the two-governorate total to 41. The authority has indicated that such drives will remain a priority to safeguard public health in the face of expanding food retail activity.
A statement from the Public Authority for Food and Nutrition following the September 5 campaign underlined that inspectors would sustain their monitoring activities to ensure ongoing adherence to food safety laws. Earlier actions in Mubarak Al-Kabeer this year included the shutdown of an unlicensed food factory in a private home and the destruction of around 30 kilograms of non-compliant products along with 26 violation reports, PAFN records from August show. These successive campaigns illustrate the authority’s systematic approach to addressing recurring issues in the sector.
The Public Authority for Food and Nutrition maintains inspection departments in every governorate to carry out both scheduled and surprise visits to markets, restaurants and production sites. Collaboration with the Ministry of Interior provides the operational support needed for effective enforcement when violations are detected during these visits. Figures from the authority reveal that unlicensed operations and substandard products remain among the most frequently cited problems in annual inspection summaries.
Enforcement actions like the one in Mubarak Al-Kabeer serve to deter other potential violators and to raise awareness among food business operators about their obligations under Kuwaiti law. The destroyed items in this case were deemed unfit due to their adulterated state and lack of verifiable origin, posing risks if they had been sold to the public. The authority continues to urge all establishments to maintain full compliance to avoid similar outcomes in future inspections.
