The Ministry of Interior announced the arrests of six suspects in four separate cases on October 11. The General Directorate for Drug Control conducted the operations targeting possession of narcotics and psychotropic substances for the purposes of trafficking and personal use. These actions form part of the directorate’s continuous campaign against drug-related crimes throughout the country.
According to the ministry, the seized substances included 1,000 grams of marijuana, 360 grams of methamphetamine, 170 grams of hashish and 150 grams of cocaine. The list also featured one liter of liquid chemical substance, an unspecified quantity of papers saturated with the substance, four digital scales, empty sachets for packaging and cash believed to be drug trafficking proceeds. The ministry placed the total dry narcotic weight at more than 1.6 kilograms for the operation.
The suspects were referred to the competent authorities along with all confiscated items for legal proceedings, the ministry said. This operation comes shortly after another conducted on October 6 in which five suspects were arrested with 5.1 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine and other items, according to a subsequent ministry release. The repeated actions highlight the scale of activity addressed by the directorate in recent weeks.
Ministry of Interior data for the month of September shows 160 drug cases involving 205 suspects. That month saw seizures of 244.62 kilograms of crystal meth, 14.495 kilograms of hashish and 5.159 kilograms of heroin in addition to hundreds of thousands of pills. The ministry also reported the deportation of 194 expatriates linked to drug offenses during September.
The General Directorate for Drug Control has carried out multiple similar operations in recent months. Its efforts have included both local distribution networks and attempts to introduce larger shipments into the market. Precision scales and packaging materials formed part of the latest inventory alongside the narcotics themselves.
