The Ministry of Interior reported that its General Department of Traffic issued 16,721 violation citations during an intensive campaign conducted across Kuwait’s governorates from June 15 to 21, while a total of 31 individuals were held for residency law violations in coordinated operations. The drive also resulted in 354 vehicles being impounded and 42 people detained on various charges according to figures released by the ministry on Tuesday.
The ministry’s briefing on the Traffic Affairs and Operations Sector campaign listed common infractions including speeding, illegal parking, failure to adhere to lane discipline and roadworthiness deficiencies. A total of 354 vehicles were impounded along with five motorcycles while seven juveniles were referred to the relevant authorities for further action. The Operations Unit received 2,339 reports during the period with field teams handling 1,040 accidents of which 175 involved injuries the briefing showed.
In addition to routine traffic enforcement the campaign netted 32 wanted persons and 25 residency law violators according to the Ministry of Interior figures. One individual without a valid civil ID was also referred along with four people caught under the influence of drugs and one suspect in a narcotics case who was handed over to the Drug Control General Department. These outcomes formed part of the wider push to address both road safety and legal residency compliance.
Separate operations by the Emergency Police Department from June 14 to 20 resulted in 746 traffic citations being issued and 15 wanted individuals arrested according to the same ministry update. That department also arrested six residency law violators seized 10 wanted vehicles and arrested three people without identification while responding to 126 accidents and carrying out 1,402 security operations. It provided humanitarian assistance in 771 cases and impounded five vehicles during the week bringing the combined residency detentions to 31.
Interior ministry statistics released this month showed that speed limit violations had fallen 65 percent in the year following the enforcement of the new traffic law from over 1.6 million to about 562,000 cases. Red light violations similarly dropped 63 percent in the comparable period where such infractions amounted to 140,539 before the new law was enforced as compared to 51,732 afterward the data indicated. The latest campaign builds on this trend of stricter enforcement and improved compliance.
The Public Authority for Civil Information announced that Kuwait’s total population reached 5,098,539 as of June 30, 2025 including 3,547,992 non-Kuwaitis. Earlier estimates at the beginning of 2025 had placed non-Kuwaitis at 3,315,086 within a total population of 4,881,254 according to the authority’s figures. The scale of the expatriate community underscores the breadth of residency enforcement actions such as the 31 detentions recorded in the recent operations.
The General Department of Traffic stated that it would continue round-the-clock campaigns to maintain safety, security and traffic discipline throughout the country. Such sustained efforts have included referrals of additional suspects to the Drug Control General Department from both traffic and emergency units. The ministry’s summary highlighted the comprehensive nature of the operations covering multiple aspects of public order.
