The Kuwaiti army said its defense systems engaged hostile aerial targets over the country, according to a statement the military published on X. Officials noted that audible explosions stemmed from the successful interceptions rather than any ground impacts, and they instructed residents to follow all issued safety guidance. No casualties or structural damage occurred from the Iranian launch, which the army characterized as a direct threat to national airspace.

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps claimed via state media that it directed the missiles and drones at the Ali Al Salem air base in Kuwait and at U.S. Navy facilities in Bahrain. The Guard framed the action as retaliation for recent American strikes on Iranian coastal radar sites and other military infrastructure, an account carried by the IRNA news agency. Iranian statements provided no additional operational details on the barrage’s scale or intended effects.

The episode follows an Iranian drone strike in early June that damaged the passenger terminal at Kuwait International Airport, Reuters reported at the time. That earlier assault killed one person, wounded dozens of others and forced authorities to divert commercial flights while prompting Kuwait’s foreign ministry to denounce what it termed criminal aggression. The June incident underscored vulnerabilities in civilian infrastructure during the widening confrontation.

U.S. Central Command confirmed that American personnel at bases in Kuwait sustained no injuries from the latest Iranian attack, with U.S. assets assisting in some of the defensive interceptions. A Centcom assessment placed the threats over Kuwaiti territory and nearby maritime areas, where they were neutralized without broader disruption to operations. The command’s update aligned with Kuwaiti reporting on the coordinated regional response.

Bahrain’s government separately stated that its defenses had also turned back Iranian projectiles aimed at its soil on the same day, an Associated Press dispatch indicated. Bahraini officials called on Tehran to end attacks against Gulf neighbors, warning that such moves jeopardized a fragile ceasefire established in April. The parallel actions highlighted the exposure of Gulf states hosting U.S. military installations.

Kuwait’s defense ministry had earlier labeled Iranian strikes as a dangerous escalation that threatened regional stability, according to statements released after the June airport attack. The ministry has reiterated its readiness to safeguard sovereignty while supporting diplomatic initiatives that include Pakistani mediation to revive talks on extending the truce. Monitoring by international observers has recorded increased exchanges since the initial ceasefire began to unravel in recent months.
