Kuwait’s Ministry of Defense announced on July 17 that its armed forces had engaged multiple ballistic missiles and drones entering national airspace since dawn in what the ministry termed an Iranian attack. Major General Saud Abdulaziz Al-Otaibi, the ministry spokesman, reported that although many of the projectiles were destroyed, several army camps and facilities were hit by hostile drones. The strikes injured a number of Land Force soldiers while they carried out their duties, but all received immediate medical attention and their conditions have stabilized, according to the ministry.

The Ministry of Defense assessment found that civilian infrastructure also came under attack during the same operation. A power generation station and a water distillation plant were struck, triggering fires and impairing electricity generation equipment at the facilities. Shrapnel from intercepted munitions fell across several districts, producing material damage to homes and other property, yet authorities confirmed that no civilians were killed or hurt.

In its statement the Ministry of Defense stressed that the armed forces remain completely operational with a high degree of readiness despite the assault. Defensive measures have been stepped up in close coordination with other government bodies to protect sovereignty and ensure the safety of residents. The ministry further indicated that troops stay on permanent alert to neutralize any future threats amid the heightened regional tensions.

This episode adds to a series of Iranian strikes on Kuwaiti targets that began in February 2026 as part of the wider Iran war, a conflict timeline summarized on Wikipedia shows. A June strike on Kuwait International Airport killed one civilian and injured more than 60 others, the BBC reported at the time. The New York Times placed the June airport casualties at one dead and at least 63 wounded, including travelers and staff, while a JINSA policy brief from mid-July noted cumulative soldier injuries across the campaign had reached 82 by that point.

The Ministry of Defense had issued parallel updates after earlier barrages, each time detailing interception numbers that ranged from 13 to more than 30 drones and missiles on single days. Al-Otaibi’s prior briefings, carried by outlets including Al Jazeera and the Times of Israel, consistently highlighted the absence of widespread civilian harm thanks to air defense performance. Kuwaiti officials continue to evaluate the latest damage while restoring services at the affected installations.
