The Kuwaiti Ministry of Foreign Affairs has strongly denounced what it described as brutal and ongoing Iranian attacks using ballistic missiles and drones. In a statement released that day, the ministry expressed condemnation and denunciation in the strongest terms of the latest assault at dawn that targeted civilian and vital facilities including Kuwait International Airport. The attacks resulted in the death of one individual, injuries to others and damage to vital facilities including diplomatic missions according to the ministry.
Kuwait’s defence ministry reported that the strike involved 13 ballistic missiles and 17 drones many of which were intercepted by air defense systems. The defence ministry indicated that the action caused structural damage visible in footage from the airport terminal where emergency teams responded immediately. Operations at the facility faced temporary disruption before resuming from alternative terminals later in the day.
In direct response to the incident Kuwaiti authorities summoned the Iranian embassy charge d’affaires to deliver an official protest. The foreign ministry declared two Iranian diplomats persona non grata and required them to depart within 24 hours. These diplomatic steps reflect the position that the breach of airspace and territory cannot pass without consequence.
The ministry stressed that the security of the State of Kuwait its sovereignty and the safety of citizens and residents on its territory form a red line that cannot be crossed. It described the repetition of these aggressions as an organised aggressive approach which the state will neither accept nor tolerate. Kuwait affirmed its full and inherent right to take appropriate measures in response to these repeated Iranian actions in accordance with international law the ministry added.
This event formed part of broader regional exchanges after U.S. strikes on Iranian targets according to U.S. Central Command assessments. Centcom stated that Iranian forces had launched the projectiles in what it termed a deliberate attack on civilian infrastructure. Similar strikes targeted facilities in neighboring Gulf states during the same period U.S. Central Command reported.
Kuwait’s health ministry placed the number of injured at more than 60 including airport staff travelers and an Indian national who was among those killed. The Indian foreign ministry issued its own condemnation of the strike noting that additional nationals sustained injuries. Regional aviation faced interruptions as authorities assessed the full scope of damage at the main terminal.
The foreign ministry warned that continued actions of this nature undermine de-escalation efforts and threaten wider stability across the region. It called for an immediate and unconditional halt to all such hostile activities by Iran. Kuwait reiterated its commitment to upholding the UN Charter and relevant Security Council resolutions in coordination with international partners.
