The Ministry of Interior announced the arrest of two drivers by the General Traffic Department’s Security Control Department in the Al-Wafra agricultural area for reckless and careless driving that endangered road users. One driver blocked a patrol to help the other escape after officers spotted a vehicle without license plates making loud noises traveling with a second vehicle. A video clip showing the reckless driving was discovered during the investigation, the ministry said. Both suspects were identified and apprehended following thorough search operations.

After legal procedures, traffic violations were recorded against the two men and they were transferred to the Central Prison, according to the ministry. The vehicles were impounded and crushed in line with court rulings under Article 33 bis of the Traffic Law. A ministry assessment found that this provision enables strict penalties including imprisonment, fines and vehicle destruction to deter dangerous behavior on the roads.

The General Traffic Department warned against reckless driving and obstructing security patrols in a statement accompanying the announcement. The department indicated that monitoring operations will continue to ensure compliance with traffic laws and protect public safety. Officials stressed that no tolerance will be shown for actions that put lives at risk.

This operation forms part of a wider campaign by the Ministry of Interior to address reckless driving, with similar arrests and vehicle crushings detailed in ministry statements released throughout September 2026. In related actions, the authorities have utilized video evidence from social media to identify and apprehend offenders, a ministry practice noted in several recent cases. The approach includes transferring suspects to prison and destroying the involved vehicles as permitted by law.

Advanced AI traffic cameras installed by the ministry have aided in identifying reckless drivers, according to a ministry press release on road safety enhancements. The initiative, directed by senior officials, aims to reduce dangerous driving through constant monitoring across all governorates. These tools complement traditional patrols in building a comprehensive enforcement network.

The Ministry of Interior has repeatedly emphasized its zero-tolerance policy toward traffic violations that endanger lives and property. Figures from the campaigns show sustained efforts to enforce Article 33 bis rigorously. Motorists have been urged to adhere to regulations to avoid severe legal consequences.
