The Ministry of Health has selected four firms to handle study design and supervision for a dedicated nurses housing project spanning multiple health districts according to details released this week from the tender process. The approval allows the companies to proceed with planning suitable accommodations for nursing staff employed in government health facilities. Officials evaluated submissions based on technical capabilities and prior experience with similar infrastructure developments in the country.

Tender documents outline the project as focusing on preparation work that will lead to construction of housing meeting current regulatory requirements for staff living quarters. The ministry has emphasized the need to support its large nursing workforce many of whom are expatriates reliant on provided accommodations as part of their employment terms. This selection marks a concrete step in addressing infrastructure gaps that have persisted in the public health system.

The Public Authority of Manpower introduced regulations earlier this year requiring worker housing to offer adequate space per person while limiting occupancy to no more than four individuals per room. These standards will apply directly to the new nurses facilities to promote better living conditions and safety. Employers unable to meet the physical requirements must instead provide housing allowances scaled to employee salaries.

Kuwait announced plans in 2025 for 12 residential complexes aimed at migrant workers including six new workers cities with capacity for around 275000 people in areas such as Jahra and Ahmadi governorates. The nurses housing initiative aligns with this wider program that seeks to eliminate overcrowded and unregulated accommodations following several safety incidents. The civil defence authority has documented how substandard housing contributed to risks in past events prompting the current regulatory push.

Ministry of Health data positions the department as the primary employer of nurses in Kuwait where compensation packages routinely incorporate either direct provision of housing or monthly allowances to cover rental costs. The project is expected to improve staff retention rates in a sector that competes regionally for qualified healthcare professionals. Further timelines for construction phases will depend on completion of the initial design and study work by the approved firms.

The tender process incorporated a corrigendum issued in March 2026 that clarified requirements for the study design and implementation supervision components. Selected companies must ensure all proposals comply with technical specifications tailored to the needs of health sector personnel. This development forms one element of ongoing government investment in support systems for essential workers across key public services.
