The Public Fire Force conducted an inspection campaign in the Shuwaikh Industrial Area of the Capital Governorate on the evening of September 9, 2026, resulting in the administrative closure of 28 facilities. Major General Muhammad Yusuf Ahmad, director of prevention for the Capital Governorate, led the campaign in cooperation with the Ministry of Interior, the Ministry of Commerce and the General Environment Authority, the force said in a statement. Inspection teams checked compliance with fire prevention and safety regulations, identifying violations that prompted the closures and warnings to other facilities. The statement added that the facilities failed to meet requirements imposed by the Public Fire Force and the participating government bodies.
This latest campaign follows one conducted on September 7 that produced administrative closures, notices and warnings for 74 establishments in the same area, according to the Kuwait News Agency. The Public Fire Force has staged repeated inspection operations in Shuwaikh and other industrial locations throughout the past 18 months. A similar drive in December 2025 led to actions against 131 establishments in Shuwaikh and Jleeb Al-Shuyoukh, previous force statements indicated.
The Public Fire Force’s semi-annual statistical report for the first half of 2025 documented 1,648 fire incidents nationwide. Brigadier General Muhammad Al-Gharib, the force’s public relations director, said many resulted from electrical overload, children playing with heat sources or intentional acts. Figures for the full year of 2025 showed the force responding to 3,468 fires, including 819 in residential buildings, according to data the force released in 2026.
The coordinated inspections incorporate checks for fire safety alongside reviews of commercial and environmental compliance by the respective authorities. Facilities that received closure orders must rectify the violations before resuming operations, the statement explained. The Public Fire Force noted that such warnings give operators an opportunity to achieve compliance and avoid prolonged shutdowns.
Shuwaikh Industrial Area has been the location of several inspection campaigns by the Public Fire Force in recent years. The latest operation adds to enforcement actions that included the July 2026 closure of 28 farms in Sulaibiya for converting agricultural plots into warehouses, according to the force. The Public Fire Force has stated that its prevention teams will persist with similar campaigns to maintain safety standards across industrial and commercial sites.
