The Ministry of Interior activated the new service within the Sahel app to enable digital handling of drone ownership information. Individuals can submit ownership details electronically and perform related tasks such as checking registered data or modifying entries. The initiative aims to streamline procedures for residents while ensuring adherence to existing aviation and security rules. Ministry officials described the addition as a step toward wider adoption of online government transactions.

According to the ministry the service also permits cancellation of registrations when drones are sold or decommissioned. This functionality integrates with other vehicle and permit management tools already hosted on the platform. The move comes amid evolving national policies on unmanned systems that have included temporary bans in response to regional developments.

Kuwait has enforced periodic restrictions on drone flights and sales to address security concerns. In statements issued earlier this year the Ministry of Interior prohibited aerial photography and drone operations nationwide until further notice. Those measures were justified as necessary to avoid disruptions to field security activities and to protect ongoing operations.

The Sahel app developed by the Public Authority for Civil Information has grown into a comprehensive portal for dozens of e-services. A 2023 announcement reported by Kuwait Times indicated that the Ministry of Interior had incorporated 26 additional functions at that time to minimize the need for in-person visits. Subsequent updates have continued to expand its reach across residency traffic and now aviation-related matters.

Regulatory oversight for drones falls under guidelines established by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation. A 2019 authority document outlined requirements for unmanned aircraft operator certificates and operational standards. The new registration tool from the interior ministry provides a practical mechanism for owners to fulfill initial ownership documentation obligations.

Implementation of the service is expected to improve data accuracy on drone prevalence within the country. Users must access the Sahel app through verified accounts to complete the electronic forms. The ministry has urged residents to utilize the platform for all eligible transactions to benefit from its efficiency gains.
