The two ministers reviewed historical relations between Kuwait and India while identifying opportunities to broaden collaboration in economic, consular and security fields. Their discussions encompassed regional and international developments of shared concern, including stability across the Gulf. The meeting took place against the backdrop of Jaishankar’s wider tour of several Gulf states that began earlier in the week.

India’s Ministry of External Affairs data places the Indian community in Kuwait at approximately one million people, forming the largest expatriate group in the country and spanning private sector and domestic roles. This demographic foundation has long supported multifaceted ties, from labour contributions to cultural exchanges that sustain people-to-people links. The community size amplifies the importance of consular cooperation addressed during high-level visits such as this one.

Bilateral trade reached 10.22 billion dollars in fiscal year 2024-25 according to India’s Ministry of External Affairs, including 1.93 billion dollars in Indian exports ranging from aircraft parts and cereals to organic chemicals, electrical machinery and jewellery. Kuwait supplies roughly 3.5 percent of India’s total energy requirements, ranking as its sixth-largest crude oil source and fifth-largest provider of liquefied petroleum gas. These energy and commercial flows remain central pillars that the ministers sought to strengthen and diversify.

The visit forms part of Jaishankar’s official tour to Qatar, Bahrain, Kuwait and Oman from July 5 to 10, as announced by India’s Ministry of External Affairs ahead of departure. That itinerary emphasises enhanced political dialogue, investment partnerships and coordination on mutual interests across the region. Such engagements build on established diplomatic channels that have expanded steadily over the past decade.

Sheikh Jarah Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah hosted Jaishankar at a luncheon following their talks, an occasion that underscored the personal rapport between the two diplomats and the friendly bilateral atmosphere. The gathering allowed for continued conversation in a less formal setting after the structured review of cooperation areas. No further details on specific outcomes were released immediately after the event.
