The Kuwait News Agency reported that His Highness the Amir Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah received a written letter from Rashad Mohammad Al-Alimi the chairman of the Yemeni Presidential Leadership Council. The message centered on methods to reinforce Kuwaiti-Yemeni bilateral relations in multiple domains. Yemeni Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Afrah Al-Zouba conveyed the document to Crown Prince Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah. Senior officials including the head of the Crown Prince’s Diwan Sheikh Thamer Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah and Foreign Minister Sheikh Jarah Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah attended the exchange.

KUNA has documented a long history of mutual support between the two states. In 2022 the agency carried statements in which Kuwait welcomed the swearing-in of Al-Alimi and the council as a historic move toward ending conflict in Yemen. The foreign ministry pledged backing for efforts to achieve peace and development in the country at that time.

More recent communications reflect continued attention to Yemen’s political situation. The Kuwaiti Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated in January 2026 that it was monitoring developments closely and advocating dialogue to safeguard Yemeni unity. It praised plans for an inclusive conference in Riyadh and urged all parties to participate constructively according to a KUNA dispatch. Kuwait also welcomed a prisoner exchange agreement reached in December 2025 as a positive step toward building confidence.

Economic and developmental cooperation has remained a priority in the relationship. The Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development signed an agreement in February 2025 to restart funding for Yemeni projects in key sectors including power generation healthcare and road infrastructure. Al-Alimi expressed appreciation for Kuwait’s contributions during the signing ceremony covered by KUNA. In March 2025 the fund provided a further 2.1 million dollar grant to support housing rehabilitation for displaced families in Yemen.

Cumulative assistance from Kuwait to Yemen has reached significant levels over the decades. A case study on long-term development assistance found that Kuwait has provided a total of 3.67 billion dollars spanning education infrastructure and social services. This support included major funding for Sana’a University along with annual scholarships that have benefited thousands of Yemeni students according to the analysis.

The delivery of the letter fits into a broader pattern of diplomatic outreach. Kuwait has repeatedly affirmed its commitment to Yemen’s stability and the aspirations of its people through various statements and initiatives. Such exchanges help sustain the channels necessary for addressing shared regional concerns and advancing cooperative projects.
