The Traffic and Operations Sector, represented by the General Traffic Department, reported that the week-long campaign also saw nine juveniles referred to the Juvenile Prosecution. A total of 2,249 traffic reports were processed, including patrols that responded to 859 traffic accidents, 141 of which resulted in injuries. In addition, one individual was arrested on suspicion of possessing drugs and five others for being under the influence of drugs, with all five referred to the Drug Control General Department, according to the department.
The department’s figures show 63 individuals were arrested for having expired residency permits and four were found without proper identification. Furthermore, 52 wanted individuals and 20 vehicles were apprehended during the operations and transferred to relevant authorities for legal action. Four motorcycles were also impounded alongside the 341 vehicles for serious traffic violations.
In a related effort, the General Department of Emergency Police conducted security and traffic operations from August 2 to 8, resulting in 1,973 security operations and assistance provided in 1,017 humanitarian cases. The operations led to the arrest of 77 wanted individuals and the impounding of 19 wanted vehicles, the department stated. It also apprehended 45 individuals for expired residency permits, 21 without official identification, 10 suspected of drug possession and 13 suspected of being under the influence of drugs.
The Emergency Police issued 1,185 traffic citations and impounded nine vehicles for serious offenses while handling 119 traffic accidents during the period. All cases were referred to the appropriate entities following the campaigns. These parallel initiatives reflect the coordinated approach to traffic and security enforcement across Kuwait’s governorates.
According to the General Traffic Department’s mid-year assessment, 351,597 traffic violations were recorded nationwide between January 1 and June 30, 2026. The department also documented 22,012 accidents in that six-month span. The latest weekly figures reflect the continued emphasis on road safety measures throughout the year.
A senior interior ministry official told Kuwait Times in July 2025 that the new traffic law implemented on April 22 of that year had reduced traffic deaths by 55 percent. Earlier data from health authorities placed annual road traffic fatalities in Kuwait at around 450 prior to the reforms. The intensified campaigns form part of broader initiatives to address road incidents.
