Dr. Saud Al-Jalal the Director General of Inspection and Control Affairs at the General Authority for Food and Nutrition said inspectors examined a cooperative society focusing on cleanliness compliance with health requirements and proper food storage practices. Several observations were noted during the visit according to the authority and officials instructed the society to address the violations and meet required standards without delay. These joint campaigns will continue at cooperative societies throughout various governorates the authority stated as part of a sustained push to verify full regulatory adherence.

The Ministry of Social Affairs circulated a directive to all cooperative societies emphasising separation of food products from cleaning materials chemicals and other contaminants in both display and storage areas to prevent any cross contamination risks. The instructions also call for storage methods that protect goods from spoilage along with maintenance of appropriate temperature controls for different product categories. Cooperatives must keep approved inspection cards on site grant authority inspectors access to facilities records and samples and immediately implement decisions on withdrawing destroying or halting circulation of non compliant items the ministry directive specified.

Ministry of Social Affairs figures show Kuwait is home to approximately 76 cooperative societies that serve as a central pillar in the national food distribution network and overall food security framework. Recent tallies placed annual sales from these societies near 903 million dinars reflecting their scale in supplying households with essential consumer goods at controlled prices. The entities are required to hold strategic reserves covering at least six months of key staples according to ministry overviews helping buffer against supply fluctuations or spikes in demand.

A central control room operated by the Ministry of Social Affairs provides continuous monitoring of cooperative operations through 191 camera points installed at supply centres and branches nationwide the ministry has reported. This digital infrastructure supports real time oversight of inventory movements sales activity and compliance indicators as part of a broader project to link more than half of all societies to unified financial and administrative systems. Such tools have enabled faster detection of irregularities and streamlined coordination between regulators and cooperative boards.

The General Authority for Food and Nutrition has carried out similar intensified inspections in governorates including Hawally where one recent tour produced 23 violation notices for matters such as operating without valid health certificates for food handlers and failing to observe hygiene protocols. In a separate action within Farwaniya Governorate two outlets faced closure after inspectors identified adulterated or unidentifiable food products on sale according to authority statements. These enforcement steps illustrate the ongoing commitment to applying legal measures against violators to safeguard public health the authority affirmed.

Parallel initiatives from the Ministry of Social Affairs have included directives on Kuwaitization of managerial roles in supply sections giving societies 30 days to prioritise national candidates where qualified individuals are available. The ministry has also advanced digital integration that has connected dozens of cooperatives to central databases reducing opportunities for administrative overlaps or unreported transactions. Officials have noted that these combined regulatory actions aim to reinforce transparency and maintain the sector’s reliability in delivering safe affordable goods to consumers across the country.
