The Ministry of Public Works directed the full closure of the road between Bayan and Mubarak Al-Abdullah beginning September 4 2026 to enable asphalt resurfacing and sewage network repairs in the affected section of Hawalli Governorate. The General Traffic Department coordinated with the ministry to establish detours via the Sixth Ring Road and posted electronic signage to direct drivers away from the work zone. Ministry officials stated that the phased approach will first address the most damaged portions before crews move to adjacent areas.

A statement from the ministry noted that Engineer Nasser Khaled Al-Zoubi who supervises the Hawalli contract confirmed that initial work includes photographing and cleaning the sewage lines followed by surveying and new asphalt application. Dr. Noura Al-Mashaan the Minister of Public Works has instructed continuous monitoring of the project to ensure compliance with international standards the ministry reported. Al-Mashaan added that the initiative responds to recommendations from senior leadership to accelerate infrastructure upgrades.

The General Traffic Department reported that similar closures in the Abdullah Al-Mubarak area earlier this year produced a measurable drop in road incidents once repairs concluded. Central Statistical Bureau figures show traffic volumes in these connected districts have risen steadily heightening wear on local pavement. Department data places the reduction in accidents at approximately 25 percent after completion of prior maintenance phases.

Ministry of Public Works records indicate the current closure forms one element within 18 active contracts that span highways and internal roads across Kuwait’s six governorates. Al-Zoubi urged residents to cooperate with traffic personnel during the work period according to the ministry statement. The project supervisor emphasized that dedicated teams will remain on site to complete tasks within the approved schedule.

Public Works Ministry assessments link the need for these repairs to increased commercial and residential activity that has accelerated pavement deterioration in Bayan and surrounding blocks. The maintenance aligns with the New Kuwait 2035 plan that prioritizes modern road networks the ministry stated. Completion of the segment is projected to restore full access within days once final layers are applied and tested.
