Chinese Ambassador to Kuwait Yang Xin has called for expanding the strategic partnership with Kuwait across new frontiers including artificial intelligence and cybersecurity, the Kuwait Times reported. Speaking at a reception on Monday to mark the 77th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China and the 55th anniversary of diplomatic relations, the ambassador reviewed the rapid growth in ties since the strategic partnership was established in 2018. He stressed that Beijing is committed to aligning the Belt and Road Initiative more closely with Kuwait Vision 2035 to drive cooperation in trade, investment, energy and infrastructure.
The event, attended by Minister of Electricity, Water and Renewable Energy Subaih Al-Mukhaizeem, heads of diplomatic missions and representatives of international organizations, provided a platform to reaffirm the depth of China-Kuwait friendship. According to Yang Xin, the relationship rests on mutual political trust, shared economic interests and cultural exchanges that go beyond energy cooperation. Kuwait’s strategic location offers it significant potential to develop as a regional logistics hub linking Asia with Europe and Africa, he added.
A Chinese foreign ministry assessment found that bilateral trade volume has expanded 800-fold since diplomatic relations began in 1971, reaching 18.58 billion U.S. dollars in 2025. The ambassador highlighted major joint projects such as the Mubarak Al Kabeer Port as key contributors to Kuwait’s development goals. He expressed hope that the two sides would build on these foundations to advance collaboration in political, scientific, cultural, technological and security fields.
Yang Xin also underscored the importance of the partnership for regional stability, noting that both countries have consistently supported each other on issues of core interest over the past 55 years. This mutual support has set an example of equality and respect between nations regardless of size, a Chinese embassy statement indicated. The reception coincided with ongoing efforts to enhance people-to-people ties through cultural and educational programs.
Kuwait was the first Gulf Arab state to establish diplomatic relations with China, a fact the ambassador recalled as the starting point for decades of steady progress. In addition to economic links, the two sides have cooperated on international platforms to promote peace and development in the Middle East. Yang Xin voiced confidence that the coming years would see even greater achievements in the comprehensive strategic partnership.
The minister and other Kuwaiti officials conveyed their congratulations on China’s National Day, reflecting the warm bilateral relations, according to the Kuwait News Agency. Discussions at the event touched on potential new areas of cooperation in smart cities and the digital economy. These steps continue the pattern of collaboration that has defined relations for much of the past five decades.
