The State Security and Terrorism Crimes Court issued the 10-year prison terms against the defendants of Kuwaiti, Yemeni, Syrian and Egyptian nationalities following a series of trials that examined evidence of systematic fund concealment through local businesses. The Public Prosecution presented cases showing the group deposited large volumes of cash into accounts linked to restaurants, taxi firms and currency exchanges before routing portions of the funds overseas. Judges headed by Nasser Al-Badr with Omar Al-Mulaifi, Abdullah Al-Faleh and Salem Al-Zayed on the panel also levied fines exceeding KD 400 million on the convicted individuals and associated commercial entities in the rulings delivered this week.

Investigators from the Financial Investigations Unit traced the KD 602 million in laundered proceeds to activities that included unlicensed financial transfers and the use of shell companies to disguise origins, according to the Public Prosecution. The court acquitted several other defendants whose involvement could not be sufficiently established under the presented evidence. Prosecutors detailed how the networks relied on layered transactions to move money abroad while recording them as legitimate commercial revenues within Kuwait.

In related proceedings the same court convicted participants of forging banking documents and operating without regulatory licenses, the Public Prosecution reported. The verdicts included orders for the confiscation of assets and tools connected to the schemes along with deportation requirements for the foreign nationals upon completion of their sentences. Similar enforcement actions have formed part of a sustained drive against cross-border financial crimes throughout 2026.

The Public Prosecution noted that the cases formed part of a batch of more than 40 rulings issued by the State Security and Terrorism Crimes Court in recent months covering money laundering alongside other financial offenses. Data from Kuwait’s financial oversight bodies indicate heightened detection of suspicious transactions routed through alternative remittance channels in the period leading to these convictions. Authorities have coordinated with international partners to monitor such flows as part of broader compliance measures.

Separate but parallel cases within the same court session resulted in additional 10-year terms and fines totaling tens of millions of dinars for comparable laundering activities involving commercial fronts, the Public Prosecution stated. The rulings underscore requirements for businesses to maintain accurate deposit records and avoid facilitating undocumented transfers. Kuwaiti law mandates severe penalties for offenses that threaten the integrity of the national financial system through concealment of illicit gains.
