The Ministry of Interior released figures Tuesday showing that last week’s combined traffic and security campaigns resulted in 28,890 citations being issued as authorities targeted reckless driving and regulatory breaches throughout the country. The same operations produced the arrest of 243 wanted individuals, according to the ministry, while Colonel Fahd Al-Essa, director of the Traffic Awareness Department, reported that eight juveniles caught driving without licenses were referred to the Juvenile Prosecution. Traffic patrols handled 3,030 reports during the period, the ministry’s statistics indicate, encompassing 1,315 road accidents of which 182 caused injuries.
Authorities impounded 241 vehicles and two motorcycles in the course of the campaign, the ministry reported, as part of efforts to remove unsafe or unlicensed operators from the roads. The operations also netted 35 expatriates held for residency permit violations and five people arrested for failing to carry official identification. Five individuals discovered in an abnormal condition were transferred to the Directorate General for Drug Control, while 28 vehicles sought by security or judicial authorities were seized.
A parallel set of emergency police patrols across multiple governorates accounted for 1,349 of the recorded violations and the processing of 107 traffic accidents, according to the ministry. Those units arrested 102 wanted persons and 90 individuals for expired residency permits during their deployments. Five vehicles were impounded in the emergency police actions that supplemented the primary traffic enforcement.
The latest weekly totals continue a pattern of intensive operations seen earlier in 2026, when the General Directorate of Traffic documented 25,653 violations over a comparable seven-day span in mid-January. That earlier campaign similarly featured arrests, vehicle seizures and heightened monitoring of dangerous behaviors on Kuwaiti roads. Such repeated enforcement cycles have become a standard element of the directorate’s strategy for addressing persistent traffic safety issues.
The General Directorate of Traffic said that field campaigns will continue across Kuwait to monitor violations that endanger road users. The directorate urged motorists to comply with traffic laws, observe road rules and maintain proper driving etiquette within designated speed limits. These steps are intended to limit accidents and safeguard lives, according to the directorate.
