Inspection teams from the Kuwait Fire Service Directorate examined numerous sites in the Capital and Hawally governorates as part of an intensified safety drive. The directorate’s statement listed the 49 closures as a direct outcome of the teams discovering critical deficiencies that posed immediate risks. Operators received formal notices detailing the specific violations and the steps required to rectify them before the facilities can resume operations.

The directorate has conducted similar campaigns in the past with a 2022 assessment by the prevention sector resulting in 327 citations for safety issues across Kuwait as reported by Kuwait Times. That earlier effort highlighted recurring problems in building maintenance and emergency preparedness according to the published statistics. The current action targeted two of the country’s most densely populated areas.

Facilities closed included a mix of commercial establishments where inspectors found blocked fire exits non-functional alarm systems and insufficient extinguishers the directorate statement detailed. Each closure was accompanied by a temporary ban on activity at the site until full corrective measures are verified by follow-up inspections. The process allows for appeals but requires documented proof of compliance with the Fire Prevention Law.

Kuwait’s urban areas have seen increased focus on fire safety in recent years following several incidents that highlighted vulnerabilities in older structures a pattern noted in reports from local authorities. The Capital and Hawally governorates home to a large portion of the expatriate population and commercial activity often feature in such campaigns due to high density. Public Authority for Civil Information figures place the expatriate population at roughly 3.3 million amplifying the need for robust safety protocols in these zones.

Further inspections are planned for other governorates as the directorate expands its preventive strategy the statement indicated. Training for inspectors has been updated to cover new regulatory requirements introduced after reviews of past events. The directorate also collaborates with municipalities to ensure coordinated responses to reported hazards.

Owners of the affected facilities have been urged to contact the nearest fire station for guidance on reinstatement procedures according to the announcement. The campaign forms part of the directorate’s annual plan to reduce fire-related risks across the country. Statistics from previous years show that timely interventions have contributed to lower incident rates in inspected areas the directorate has reported in prior releases.
