Acting Director of the Meteorology Department Dhirar Al-Ali said Kuwait will be affected by dust-raising winds from Friday evening until Saturday morning accompanied by chances of scattered rain. A weakening surface high-pressure system will allow a cold air mass to move in causing the south-east winds to shift to north-west becoming active and dusty at times. Weekend weather is expected to be moderate during the day while temperatures will drop to cold or very cold levels at night with frost possible in agricultural and desert areas. Al-Ali explained these details in a statement distributed by the Kuwait News Agency.

According to Al-Ali Friday night will see stronger winds reduced visibility due to dust and possible rain over northern areas while Saturday will remain partly cloudy with continued chances of light rain and dust in open areas. The forecast follows a period of very hot conditions in September 2026 when the same department reported maximum temperatures of 45 to 47 degrees Celsius across the country. Kuwait’s Meteorology Department has tracked such seasonal transitions for decades providing regular updates on shifting weather patterns in the region.

Al-Ali noted that the weather maps and numerical models clearly indicate the arrival of this cold air mass which will alter wind directions and bring variable conditions. The department’s assessment found that nighttime lows could reach levels low enough to produce frost in exposed locations away from urban centers. Residents should anticipate reduced visibility at times particularly in open desert areas where dust may be lifted by the active winds.

The Meteorology Department previously detailed similar winter patterns in late 2025 when cold fronts led to fog formation and light rain in parts of the country as reported in official briefings. This latest forecast builds on those observations highlighting the potential for scattered precipitation mainly in northern governorates. Al-Ali’s update serves as the primary source for all specific timing and intensity projections included in the department’s latest release.

Kuwait’s expatriate population which the Public Authority for Civil Information places at roughly 3.3 million may need to adjust travel plans due to the expected dusty conditions and possible rain. The Meteorology Department advised checking for real-time updates as the cold air mass progresses through the area over the coming days. Separate data from earlier department statements confirm that January periods often feature such fluctuations between moderate daytime readings and much cooler nights.
