British Ladies’ Society winter bazaar to bring more than 100 vendors to Salmiya

The British Ladies’ Society’s annual winter bazaar will take place at the American University of Kuwait in Salmiya on Saturday, 7 November, bringing together more than 100 vendors for a public event with free entry.

Running from 10am to 5pm, the bazaar will feature handmade gifts, home décor, jewellery, books, fashion and food. The programme announced by the organisers also includes games, music and photo opportunities, with parking and access through Gate 3.

The event opens one of the society’s seasonal gatherings to the wider community, beyond its membership. Visitors do not need to be members of the British Ladies’ Society to attend.

What visitors can expect

According to the British Ladies’ Society’s announcement, this year’s bazaar will host more than 100 vendors, with stalls covering a mix of locally handmade items, gifts and refreshments.

The range includes both practical goods and seasonal pieces, from books and clothing to jewellery and home decorations. Alongside the stalls, the organisers have listed food, drinks and activities as part of the day’s programme.

The seven-hour schedule gives visitors the option of attending during the morning or afternoon. Admission is free, while purchases from vendors are separate.

The venue is the American University of Kuwait’s campus in Salmiya. The organiser has specified Gate 3 for both parking and entry, a useful detail for visitors unfamiliar with the university.

A society established in 1993

The British Ladies’ Society, commonly known as BLS, has been part of Kuwait’s expatriate community for more than three decades.

Founded in 1993, it was established to help British women living in Kuwait meet one another, develop friendships and learn more about the country’s culture and customs. Its membership model has also included women of other nationalities through an associate membership programme.

That background places the bazaar within a broader programme of social and cultural activities. Over the years, the society’s published activities have included coffee mornings, book clubs, walking groups, evening gatherings and excursions to places of interest around Kuwait.

Family events have also formed part of its programme, alongside smaller gatherings designed around shared interests. These activities have given members different ways to meet, whether through a regular group or an occasional outing.

From member gatherings to a public event

While much of the society’s activity centres on its members, the winter bazaar is advertised as open to everyone. Its combination of stalls and activities makes it a different format from the society’s regular meetings and interest groups.

For this year’s event, the central details are straightforward: more than 100 vendors, a Salmiya campus venue and no admission charge. The organiser’s announcement lists shopping, refreshments and entertainment within the same daytime programme.

The bazaar takes place on Saturday, 7 November, from 10am until 5pm at the American University of Kuwait. Visitors should use Gate 3 for access and parking.

Further event information is available through the British Ladies’ Society’s Instagram account, @blskuwait, which carries the announcement and practical details for those planning to attend on Saturday.
